CM Yogi govt’s vision: Lucknow’s AI City to run on green energy
Clean energy mandatory for data centres and AI infrastructure
Solar and green hydrogen to be key power sources
Sustainable development to drive investment and technology
Lucknow, January 2026 : The proposed Artificial Intelligence (AI) City in Lucknow will be developed entirely on a green energy model, reflecting the CM Yogi Adityanath government’s commitment to balancing technological advancement with environmental responsibility. The ambitious project will draw power from clean sources such as solar energy and green hydrogen, ensuring that the growth of AI and data-driven technologies goes hand in hand with environmental protection.
According to the state government, the energy requirements of data centres and high-performance computing infrastructure in the AI City will not rely on conventional fuels. Instead, solar-based systems will be deployed to cut carbon emissions and keep energy costs under control, setting a benchmark for future technology-driven projects.
Green hydrogen will also play a key role, with plans to use it in transportation, industrial processes, and smart facilities within the AI City. This initiative positions Uttar Pradesh among the leading states actively adopting hydrogen-based clean energy at a practical scale.
The data centres planned for the AI City will adhere to global standards of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Green-powered data centres are expected to boost confidence among global technology companies, as investors increasingly prefer destinations with a clear and credible sustainability roadmap, an area where Uttar Pradesh is making rapid progress.
The green building concept will be mandatory, with energy-efficient construction materials, extensive use of natural light, and robust water conservation systems. Smart mobility solutions will also be promoted to reduce reliance on private vehicles and curb pollution.
The Yogi government envisions that the benefits of the AI City will extend well beyond the technology sector. Clean energy–led development will contribute to a healthier local environment, better public health, and the generation of new employment opportunities. Designed as a model of sustainable innovation, the AI City aims to deliver long-term solutions for technology, industry, and society as a whole.
