Hurda Party and Makar Sankranti Festival to Light Up Delhi in the Presence of Film Actor Bharat Jadhav

New Delhi, January 2026 : A vibrant celebration showcasing authentic Maharashtrian flavours and culture, the ‘Hurda Party’ and ‘Makar Sankranti Festival’, is set to be organised in the national capital in the august presence of popular Marathi theatre and film actor Bharat Jadhav. The festival will be held at the New Maharashtra Sadan on Kasturba Gandhi Marg from January 9 to January 11, between 12 noon and 9:30 pm, informed Resident Commissioner and Secretary Ms. R. Vimala.

Renowned for his memorable performances in hit Marathi films such as Pachhadlela, Jatra, Aga Bai Arechcha!, and Sade Made Teen, actor Bharat Jadhav, who has earned a special place in the hearts of Marathi audiences, will inaugurate the festival.

Following the overwhelming response from Delhiites to the Maharashtra Food Festival held in December, this Hurda Party has been specially organised as a winter delicacy. Set against the backdrop of Makar Sankranti, the festival will offer visitors an opportunity to enjoy tilgul (sesame sweets), hurda roasted on traditional bonfires, and a glimpse of rural Maharashtrian culture.

The festival aims to recreate the authentic farm-side hurda experience enjoyed in regions such as Pune, Solapur, Nashik, and Marathwada. Along with hurda, visitors can relish spicy garlic chutney, peanut powder, golden jaggery, pure ghee, buttermilk, and traditional stove-cooked delicacies such as pithla-bhakri, bharit bhakri, batata vadas, and bhajiyas. Fresh rural produce like sugarcane, ber (jujube), and green chickpeas will also be available in abundance.

A special attraction of the festival will be a creative art competition on January 10, 2026. Organised by the Fine Line Art Academy, a Live Painting Activity will be conducted for budding artists and students from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. As a special incentive, all necessary materials—including canvas, paints, and brushes—will be provided free of cost. This initiative aims to offer a platform to emerging talent and add an artistic dimension to the festival. Interested artists and students are encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity to showcase their creativity.

On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a variety of handcrafted items prepared by women for festive gifting will also be available for sale. The warmth of winter, bonfires, traditional music, and the delightful taste of hurda will together create a truly blissful experience for visitors.

Serving as a cultural bridge between urban and rural Maharashtra, this festival will bring Delhiites closer to the state’s rich traditions. Resident Commissioner R. Vimala and Investment Resident Commissioner Sushil Gaikwad have appealed to the public to participate in large numbers and enjoy the hospitality, cuisine, and culture of Maharashtra at the New Maharashtra Sadan from January 9 to 11.
