Lungleiah DSW&RO Meets Newly Commissioned Assam Regiment Officers

Lunglei, January 2026: Newly commissioned officers of the Assam Regiment visited Lunglei today and met with the District Sainik Welfare & Resettlement Officer (DSW&RO), Maj. Rebecca L. Chhakchhuak (Retd), at the Lunglei District Sainik Office.

During the meeting, Maj. Rebecca L. Chhakchhuak (Retd) briefed the officers on the functioning of the Sainik Office, highlighting matters related to the welfare of Mizo ex-servicemen, their families, and the broader community. She also shared insights on the long-standing tradition of Mizo soldiers serving in the Assam Regiment, explaining how the regiment has provided opportunities for Mizo personnel to serve with distinction while contributing to national defense.

The newly commissioned Assam Regiment officers discussed various aspects of Mizoram’s history, culture, and geography, gaining a deeper understanding of the region. Maj. Rebecca also provided them with relevant materials and a Mizoram calendar to support their orientation.

The Assam Regiment officers familiarized themselves with significant locations in and around Lunglei, including Chanmari village and the War Memorial, learning about their historical importance. Maj. Rebecca L. Chhakchhuak highlighted the significance of the War Memorial and shared details about its role in commemorating the service and sacrifices of soldiers from the region.

The interaction allowed the officers to connect with the local heritage, understand the contributions of Mizoram’s armed personnel, and gain insight into the welfare initiatives managed by the Sainik Office in Lunglei.
