RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Votes in NMC Polls, Urges Citizens to Choose Candidates Wisely

Nagpur, Jan 2026 : RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat cast his vote in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections on Thursday morning and emphasized the importance of voting responsibly, cautioning against the use of the NOTA (None of the Above) option. Arriving at a polling booth in Nagpur’s Mahal area around 7:30 a.m., Bhagwat was among the early voters in the civic polls.

Speaking to reporters, he said elections are a vital pillar of democracy and urged citizens to vote for candidates who best serve public interest. “So, today I voted first,” Bhagwat stated. On the NOTA option, he remarked, “NOTA means that you reject everyone, and by doing so, we promote someone who is not wanted.” He added that while NOTA allows voters to express dissatisfaction, casting a vote for a suitable candidate is a more effective choice than abstaining.

Bhaiyaji Joshi, former RSS general secretary and central committee member, also exercised his franchise and highlighted the role of elections in shaping governance. He said, “In a democracy, governments are formed by the mandate of the people, which is expressed through elections. It is expected that the elected government meets the aspirations of the citizens.” Joshi urged everyone to exercise their right to vote to strengthen democratic processes.

The NMC elections are part of the larger civic polls taking place across Maharashtra, with voting underway in 29 municipal corporations in the state. In the previous NMC elections, the BJP secured a commanding majority, winning 108 of the 151 seats, followed by the Congress with 28, the BSP 10, the undivided Shiv Sena 2, and the undivided NCP 1.

The polling in Nagpur and other cities is being closely watched as it reflects local political dynamics and public sentiment ahead of future state-level contests. Bhagwat’s call for mindful voting underscores the RSS’s emphasis on citizen participation and civic responsibility, while also reminding voters of the impact of their choice in determining local governance.

With early voting underway, authorities have deployed security measures to ensure a smooth polling process across Nagpur and other municipal bodies in Maharashtra.
