TCS Preserves Maharashtra’s Cultural and Natural Heritage

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Encourages Private Sector Participation in Heritage Conservation

▪ Conservation of Mumbai’s Rajabai Clock Tower, University Library Building, and Museum

Mumbai, January 2026 : The conservation and preservation of Maharashtra’s cultural and natural heritage is being carried out more effectively through the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the cooperation of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Chief Minister Fadnavis has actively promoted a policy of involving the private sector in heritage conservation and preservation. TCS and the TCS Foundation are playing an active role in protecting historical monuments and natural ecosystems across Maharashtra.

Inspired by Chief Minister Fadnavis, an important project for the conservation and restoration of Mumbai’s historic Rajabai Clock Tower and the University of Mumbai’s library building has been implemented over the past decade.

The modernization of the external lighting system of the 156-year-old Rajabai Tower in Mumbai, along with the repair and restoration of library furniture, gained momentum due to support at the government level. TCS contributed ₹8.90 crore to this project, which was recognized by UNESCO at the 2018 Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Fadnavis, the conservation and restoration of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) achieved international recognition through the public-private partnership model. TCS contributed a total of ₹24.79 crore to this project in phases. In 2022, the project received the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Conservation “Award of Excellence,” and it has been regarded as a benchmark from both architectural and engineering perspectives. This marked the museum’s first major restoration effort in the past 100 years.
