Telangana Government Undertakes Major Police Reshuffle, 20 IPS Officers Transferred Across State

Hyderabad, Jan 2026 : In a significant administrative move, the Telangana government carried out a major reshuffle of the state police department late Saturday, transferring 20 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers across key jurisdictions including Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Rachakonda, and Malkajgiri. The orders were issued through Government Order (GO) Rt No. 75 by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao.

Among the prominent changes, Dr. Gajarao Bhupal, a 2008-batch officer serving as Joint Commissioner of Traffic, Cyberabad, has been promoted and posted as Inspector General (IG) of Police, Provisioning & Logistics. In addition, he has been given full additional charge as IG, Sports & Welfare. Abhishek Mohanty, formerly DIG of the Telangana Narcotics Bureau, has been appointed DIG, Vigilance & Enforcement, while R. Bhaskaran, previously SP of the Intelligence CI Cell, has been promoted to DIG within the same department.

The government has also directed A. Balakoti, formerly Additional SP (Vigilance & Enforcement), to report to the office of the Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana.

Other notable postings include Ms. G. Chandana Deepthi, 2012-batch, who has moved from SP/DIG Railways, Secunderabad, to Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration & Traffic), Future City Commissionerate. Ms. T. Annapurna (2013-batch) has been shifted from SP, Vigilance & Enforcement, Hyderabad, to DCP, Administration, Cyberabad. Traffic management postings were also reorganized, with officers including B. K. Rahul Hegde, Kankanala Rahul Reddy, Avinash Kumar, and Shivam Upadhyaya assuming key roles across Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and Future City Commissionerates.

In Hyderabad City, DCP positions across East, South East, and Traffic zones were reshuffled to ensure improved law and order and operational efficiency. New appointments in intelligence, special branch, CID, and vigilance & enforcement divisions are expected to strengthen coordination and administrative control across the tri-commissionerates.

The full list of transfers covers officers from batches 2008 to 2021, reflecting a mix of experienced senior officers and relatively newer IPS officers stepping into critical operational roles. Officers have been instructed to assume their charges immediately, signaling the government’s intent to ensure smooth continuity of policing services and improved management of traffic and law and order across the state.

The reshuffle is expected to enhance operational efficiency, especially in traffic administration, intelligence coordination, and vigilance operations, while providing strategic oversight across Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Rachakonda, and Malkajgiri commissionerates. Officials will now be tasked with implementing performance benchmarks and ensuring better public service delivery, reflecting the Telangana government’s focus on strengthening policing infrastructure and administrative accountability.
