This event was conducted jointly by the Food4Thought Organisation and Monocept, and it included multiple quiz rounds. The competition was conducted at multiple levels – State level, Regional level, and National level.
The State level event was first organized on August 22, 2025, at the MYC office. Schools were invited to participate, and students from each school represented their institutions. At this level, Mt Carmel was one participating school, with Krista Roluahpuia, a Class IX student, and Rebek Malsawmzuali, a Class VIII student, representing the school. La Montessori also participated with students Malsawmhlui Pachuau, Class VIII, and Joshua Lalawmpuia, Class VIII. At the State level, students had to read and answer questions from 50 books, making the event highly competitive.
These schools then advanced to the Regional level, which was held on November 29, 2025, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, representing Mizoram. The Regional level was for Zone 5, involving 21 schools. At the Regional level, La Montessori ranked first in the Northeast Region, while Mt Carmel placed second. The winners at the Regional level qualified to represent the Northeast Region at the National level. At this stage, participants had to answer questions from 50 books.
At the National level, 10 schools qualified and competed on January 17, 2026, in Hyderabad. Due to flight cancellations, the Mizoram schools could not travel to the venue physically, so the organizers conducted the National level event online via the MYC office. The event started at 5:30 PM and involved reading and answering questions from 100 books.
At this National level event, Mt Carmel’s participants – Krista Roluahpuia, Class IX, and Rebek Malsawmzuali, Class VIII – secured second place, while La Montessori’s participants – Malsawmhlui Pachuau, Class VIII, and Joshua Lalawmpuia, Class VIII – won third place.
The Mizoram Youth Commission expressed that this India Rampum Reading Decathlon was an excellent opportunity for Mizoram schools, fostering interest and skill in reading among students. This initiative was highly appreciated and has significantly encouraged the younger generation in Mizoram to engage more with reading.
This Reading Decathlon is planned to be an annual event, and the MYC intends to ensure even greater participation from more schools in the coming years.
