PM Modi Congratulates Nitin Nabin on Becoming BJP National President, Says He Will Now Be a “Worker” Under His Leadership

New Delhi, Jan 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Nitin Nabin on his election as the new National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), describing the moment as a continuation of the party’s strong democratic traditions and organisational discipline. In a lighter yet symbolic remark that drew loud applause from party workers, the Prime Minister said that with Nabin assuming the top organisational post, he would now serve as a “worker” of the party while Nabin would be his “boss.”

Nitin Nabin was formally elected as the BJP National President during the party’s organisational conclave, Sangathan Parv, held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi. With his election, Nabin has become the youngest leader to assume the presidency of the world’s largest political party, marking a generational shift in the BJP’s organisational leadership.

The event was attended by the party’s top leadership, including outgoing BJP National President J.P. Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Chief Ministers, senior office-bearers, and representatives from across the country. The senior leaders felicitated Nabin, underscoring the strong consensus within the party around his leadership.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi said that the organisational elections conducted by the BJP over the past several months reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy. “For several months, the organisational election process has been underway, starting from the smallest units of the party and culminating in the election of the National President. This has been done in a democratic manner, in keeping with the spirit and every provision of the BJP Constitution,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted that the conclusion of the process was not merely a formality but a celebration of the BJP’s organisational culture. “This grand organisational election process symbolises the BJP’s democratic faith, organisational discipline, and worker-centric approach. I congratulate every party worker across the country who contributed to making this process successful,” Modi said.

Highlighting the ethos of the party, Modi said that BJP leadership has always been shaped by tradition, experience, and a deep commitment to public service and national service. He emphasised that despite his long political journey and his role as Prime Minister, his identity as a party worker remained paramount. “No matter how many years of experience I have or whatever responsibility I hold, first and foremost, I am a worker of the BJP, and I am proud of that,” he said.

Amid enthusiastic sloganeering, Modi added, “When it comes to party affairs, I am a worker, and Nitin Nabin is my boss.” The remark was seen as reinforcing the BJP’s culture of organisational hierarchy, where even the highest constitutional office-holder submits to the party’s internal discipline.

Describing Nabin as a representative of a new generation of leadership, the Prime Minister referred to him as a “millennial” and linked his rise to the broader journey of the nation. “This is the 21st century. The first 25 years of this century have passed, and the next 25 years are extremely important. This is the period in which a ‘Viksit Bharat’ will be built,” Modi said. “In this crucial phase, Nitin Nabin will carry forward the BJP’s legacy.”

Modi said Nabin belongs to a generation that has witnessed rapid economic, social, and technological change. “He comes from a generation that once gathered information through radio and today works confidently with artificial intelligence. This understanding of transformation will be a strength for the organisation,” he added. According to the Prime Minister, Nabin combines youthful energy with deep organisational experience, a combination that would be beneficial for the party’s future growth.

The Prime Minister also reflected on the contributions of past BJP presidents, tracing the party’s journey over the decades. He recalled how under the leadership of stalwarts such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L.K. Advani, and Murli Manohar Joshi, the BJP rose from political marginality to national prominence. He noted that leaders like M. Venkaiah Naidu and Nitin Gadkari further expanded the organisation in the early years of the new century.

Modi said that under Rajnath Singh’s leadership, the BJP achieved a historic full majority on its own at the Centre for the first time. He credited Amit Shah with strengthening the party’s electoral footprint across states and leading it to a second consecutive term in government. Under J.P. Nadda, Modi said, the BJP grew stronger at every level, from panchayats to Parliament.

The Prime Minister also paid homage to the founding members of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, acknowledging their sacrifices and vision that laid the foundation for the BJP’s present strength.

Emphasising the party’s ethos, Modi said the BJP is not just an organisation but a culture and a family, where relationships go beyond formal membership. “The BJP is driven by process, not by position. Presidents may change, but our ideals do not. Leadership changes, but our direction remains constant,” he said.

He added that the BJP’s national character is rooted in its strong local connections. “Our roots run deep in the soil. That is why the BJP provides a platform for regional aspirations and why people from every corner of the country continue to join the party,” Modi said. He also noted that for those seeking to begin a political journey, the BJP offers a structured, value-based, and secure platform.

Outgoing president J.P. Nadda also addressed the gathering and congratulated Nabin on assuming the responsibility. Calling the occasion historic, Nadda said, “Today, a young, energetic, and talented leader is taking charge as the National President of the world’s largest political party. On behalf of crores of workers, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Nitin Nabin.”

Nadda highlighted Nabin’s grassroots background, ideological grounding, and political experience, noting that he has served five terms as an MLA at a relatively young age. He thanked Prime Minister Modi for providing vision and guidance to the party and for paying close attention to organisational matters despite the demands of leading the nation.

Nabin was elected unopposed as the sole candidate by the BJP’s electoral college, comprising members of the national and state councils. His election adhered strictly to party rules, which require long-standing membership and broad organisational support.

Nitin Nabin’s elevation is widely seen as a strategic step to infuse youthful leadership into the BJP’s organisation while maintaining continuity in ideology and governance, as the party prepares for the challenges and opportunities of the coming decades.
