CM Vijay to Felicitate State Board Toppers at TVK Education Awards Programme

Chennai, July 2026 : Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to preside over the party’s flagship Education Awards programme, where district toppers in the Class 10 and Class 12 State Board examinations will be honoured at a grand ceremony expected to be held in Chennai later this month or during the first week of August.

The event will hold special significance as it will be the first edition of the Education Awards since Vijay assumed office as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Although the initiative began well before his formal entry into electoral politics, this will be the first time he will felicitate students in his capacity as the state’s Chief Minister.

According to senior TVK leaders, preparations for the programme are in the final stages. District secretaries across Tamil Nadu have been directed to identify eligible students who secured top ranks in their respective districts, establish contact with their families and coordinate travel arrangements for their participation in the ceremony.

Parents of the award-winning students will also be invited to attend the event, making it a celebration of both academic excellence and family support. While the final schedule has not yet been officially announced, party sources indicated that the function is likely to be organised either in the last week of July or the first week of August.

As in previous years, the ceremony is expected to be held in a private hotel at Mahabalipuram, where students from across the state will gather for a single-phase event. The large-scale programme is expected to bring together hundreds of meritorious students, parents, educators and senior party leaders.

TVK launched the Education Awards in 2023 with the objective of recognising outstanding academic achievements by students studying in both government and private schools. Under the initiative, Vijay personally honoured the top three scorers in Classes 10 and 12 from every Assembly constituency, presenting them with medals, certificates and other recognitions.

Over the past few years, the programme has emerged as one of TVK’s most prominent public outreach initiatives, attracting thousands of students and their families. The awards have earned appreciation for encouraging academic excellence and motivating young achievers across Tamil Nadu.

Following TVK’s victory in the Assembly elections and the formation of the new government, speculation had surfaced on social media regarding whether the annual awards would continue, as no official announcement had been made immediately after the examination results were declared.

However, senior party leaders clarified that the initiative had never been discontinued and that preparations had simply been delayed due to administrative and logistical arrangements following the formation of the new government and completion of the examination process.

Party sources further emphasised that despite Vijay now serving as Chief Minister, the Education Awards will continue to be organised exclusively under the TVK banner and not as a state government programme. The medals, certificates and other honours will be presented by the party, preserving the initiative’s identity as a long-standing educational outreach programme aimed at recognising and encouraging academic excellence among students across Tamil Nadu.

The upcoming event is expected to reaffirm Vijay’s continued focus on education and youth development while maintaining one of TVK’s signature initiatives that has gained widespread popularity since its launch.
