Narender Wins Silver as India Enjoys Historic Boxing Campaign at Commonwealth Games 2026

Glasgow, Aug 2026 : India’s Narender secured the silver medal in the men’s 90kg boxing category at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after losing to England’s Thomas Damar in the final on Saturday, bringing another medal to India’s highly successful boxing campaign in Glasgow.

Fighting before a partisan home crowd, Damar produced a composed performance to defeat Narender by a unanimous 5-0 decision. The judges awarded the English boxer scores of 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 30-26 and 30-27, giving him a clear verdict in the gold-medal bout.

Narender, however, displayed considerable determination throughout the contest. The Indian heavyweight matched Damar in several exchanges and continued to attack despite the Englishman’s tactical advantage. He remained competitive until the final bell but could not do enough to convince the judges to overturn the home boxer’s advantage.

The silver medal capped an impressive campaign for Narender, who defeated several strong opponents on his way to the final. His performance further underlined India’s growing strength across different weight categories and added to what has been a landmark edition for Indian boxing.

India has emerged as one of the dominant forces in boxing at Glasgow 2026, with seven gold and three silver medals from the 10 Indian boxers who reached their respective finals. The gold-medal winners include Ankush Panghal, Sachin Siwach, Arundhati Choudhary, Priya, Sakshi, Preeti Pawar and Jaismine Lamboria.

Besides Narender, Lovlina and Jadumani Singh also secured silver medals, taking India’s boxing haul at the Games to an impressive 10 medals.

The Glasgow campaign has also produced India’s best-ever boxing performance at a single edition of the Commonwealth Games. Overall, India has now won 44 Commonwealth Games boxing medals, comprising 11 gold, 13 silver and 20 bronze.

The achievement marks a significant improvement over India’s performance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where the country won seven boxing medals — three gold, one silver and three bronze.

At Birmingham, India had tied with Northern Ireland as the most successful boxing nation in terms of total medals, although Northern Ireland claimed five gold medals. India’s remarkable performance in Glasgow has now surpassed its previous overall medal haul in a single Commonwealth Games edition.

Narender’s silver therefore comes as another significant contribution to a historic campaign. Although he missed out on the top podium finish, his run to the final and his determined display against Damar ensured that India continued its impressive medal-winning momentum in Glasgow.
