Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ Prompt Intervention Ensures Safe Evacuation
Mumbai, August 2026: Thirty-seven pilgrims from Maharashtra, who were stranded in Saga, Tibet, while returning after completing the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, have safely departed for Kathmandu. Following the prompt intervention of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the pilgrims left Saga at 6 a.m. today and began their journey to Kathmandu via the Nyalam check post.
The 37 pilgrims, from Thane, Pune, Alibag, Raigad and Dombivli, had travelled to Tibet for the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. They became stranded in Saga during their return journey. Since their return flight from Kathmandu was scheduled for 2 p.m. on August 29, reaching Kathmandu on time was crucial.
After receiving information about the situation, Chief Minister Fadnavis immediately contacted the Government of India’s Ministry of External Affairs and facilitated the necessary assistance for the stranded pilgrims. With the support extended by the authorities, all 37 pilgrims have now begun their safe journey from Saga to Kathmandu.
The pilgrims expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Government of Maharashtra and the Ministry of External Affairs for providing timely assistance and ensuring their safe return during the difficult situation.
