Ahmedabad/Surat/Gujarat, August 2026: The Gujarat unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Women’s Wing organised a grand ‘Nari Hunkar’ convention in Surat, with more than 2,700 women from across Gujarat participating in the event.
AAP Gujarat in-charge Gopal Rai, state women’s wing president Payal Sakariya, state organisation general secretary Manoj Sorathiya, state vice-president Ram Dhaduk, corporator Dharmesh Bhanderi, Asmita Dhorajiya, state women’s wing vice-president and corporator Rachana Hirpara, Monica Gupta, Kajal Ghoghariya and a large number of party office-bearers and workers attended the convention.
The event was organised with a focus on women’s empowerment, safety and the resolve to bring about change in Gujarat. Women participating in the convention collectively pledged to raise their voice on issues affecting them and their families.
Addressing the gathering, AAP Gujarat Women’s Wing president Payal Sakariya said the ‘Nari Hunkar’ was not merely a convention but represented the collective strength and determination of women across Gujarat.
She said women participating in the convention would play an important role in bringing about change in the state. According to Sakariya, women are deeply concerned about the well-being of their families and society, while the growing problem of alcohol and drugs remains one of the biggest challenges facing Gujarat.
She said the process of change in Gujarat should begin with shutting down illegal liquor and drug outlets and added that the voice raised through the ‘Nari Hunkar’ convention would not remain confined to Surat but would resonate across the state.
AAP Gujarat in-charge Gopal Rai said that while Gujarat has a Home Minister, every woman present at the convention is effectively the “Home Minister” of her own household. He said women who are capable of managing their families can also play a major role in bringing about transformation in society and the state.
Rai said women in Gujarat were facing several challenges and would play an important role in shaping the state’s future. Through the ‘Nari Hunkar’ initiative, he said, women had resolved to raise their voices for their rights, safety and a better future.
The large participation of women at the Surat convention highlighted the growing involvement of women in Gujarat’s political and social affairs. The AAP Women’s Wing said the event sent a message of women’s increasing commitment towards public issues and their determination to contribute to change.
The party also resolved to take the ‘Nari Hunkar’ raised in Surat to every part of Gujarat, mobilising women and strengthening their collective voice on issues concerning public welfare, safety and empowerment.
