Air India Shifts Visakhapatnam Flights to New Bhogapuram Airport From August 17

New Delhi, Aug 2026 : Air India will shift all its flights serving Visakhapatnam to the newly inaugurated Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram from August 17, the airline announced on Sunday. The new airport will retain the existing IATA code VTZ, which will be transferred from Visakhapatnam International Airport.

Air India said it will continue to operate 14 weekly flights between Bhogapuram and Delhi, providing passengers with convenient connections to major domestic and international destinations through its network hubs.

The new airport terminal, spread across 77,342 square metres, has been designed to improve passenger convenience and operational efficiency. Its facilities include 22 conventional check-in counters, 18 self-baggage-drop units, advanced passenger-screening systems, modern baggage-handling infrastructure and seven aerobridges.

While commercial airline operations will move to Bhogapuram, the existing Visakhapatnam airport will continue to support defence and police operations, VIP movements and unscheduled special flights.

Under the current aviation schedule, the Bhogapuram airport flight timetable will remain effective until October 24, 2026. Air India will operate multiple services connecting Bhogapuram with Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Vijayawada, strengthening air connectivity across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states.

Flights between Hyderabad and Bhogapuram will operate twice daily, providing passengers with regular connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Similarly, Bengaluru-Bhogapuram flights will operate twice daily, with an additional return service scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The airport is located in Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district and is intended to serve the wider Visakhapatnam metropolitan region. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 1.

The shift marks a significant change in the region's civil aviation infrastructure, with Bhogapuram expected to provide modern facilities and improved capacity for passengers and airlines. The transfer of the VTZ code will also ensure continuity for passengers and airline operations previously associated with Visakhapatnam International Airport.
