New Delhi, Aug 2026 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday hoisted the national flag at his residence in the national capital as part of the ongoing ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, calling the initiative a powerful expression of patriotism, national pride and unity.
Shah shared photographs and his message on social media platform X, saying that the campaign was strengthening the emotional bond between citizens and the Tricolour. He said the initiative, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had encouraged crores of Indians to connect with the national flag and reinforce the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.
The Home Minister said that hoisting the Tricolour at homes was more than a symbolic gesture, as it reflected citizens’ commitment to the nation and its values. The campaign has emerged as an important part of the celebrations surrounding Independence Day and seeks to encourage people across the country to proudly display the national flag.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign was launched under the broader Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative to encourage citizens to bring the Tricolour into their homes and hoist it during Independence Day celebrations. The campaign was conceived to deepen the personal connection between citizens and the national flag, which had traditionally been associated largely with government institutions and official occasions.
By taking the flag into homes, the initiative seeks to make the Tricolour a symbol of individual pride as well as collective national identity. It also aims to promote national unity and inspire citizens to contribute to the country's development.
This year, ‘Har Ghar Tiranga 2026’ is being dedicated to the spirit of 150 years of Vande Mataram, linking the campaign with the historic national song and its enduring association with India's freedom movement and patriotic tradition.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also appealed to citizens to participate actively in the campaign ahead of Independence Day on August 15. In a social media message, he urged people to celebrate the occasion with pride, remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters and renew their commitment to building a Viksit Bharat.
“Har Ghar Tiranga, Ghar Ghar Tiranga, Har Man Tiranga,” the Prime Minister said in his appeal, encouraging the Tricolour to become a visible expression of national spirit in every household.
Earlier this week, Modi described the national flag as a source of pride and inspiration, urging citizens to participate enthusiastically in the campaign. He said the initiative should help strengthen the collective resolve to contribute to India's development.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the significance of dedicating this year's campaign to Vande Mataram, particularly as the country marks the 150th anniversary of the national song.
With Independence Day approaching, the campaign is being observed across the country through flag-hoisting events and public participation. The government has sought to use the initiative to celebrate India's freedom struggle while encouraging citizens to look towards the country's future with a shared sense of responsibility and national purpose.
Shah's participation in the campaign adds to the nationwide mobilisation around the Tricolour, with senior leaders and citizens being encouraged to display the national flag and commemorate the sacrifices that shaped India's journey to Independence.
