A two-day free assessment and registration camp for persons with disabilities and senior citizens was organised at Keshav Nagar in Lucknow. MLA Dr Neeraj Bora inaugurated the second day of the camp, where an ALIMCO team assessed beneficiaries for assistive devices. Around 100 people registered for equipment suited to their individual needs.
Lucknow, Sept 2026 : A two-day free camp for the assessment and registration of assistive equipment for persons with disabilities and senior citizens was organised at the community centre in Keshav Nagar, Faizullaganj, Lucknow, on Thursday.
The camp was organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. On the second day, Lucknow North MLA Dr Neeraj Bora inaugurated the programme.
A team from the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) conducted assessments of persons with disabilities and senior citizens and registered them for assistive devices based on their individual requirements.
A large number of beneficiaries arrived at the camp with their family members to undergo assessment and register for various types of equipment. Around 100 people completed the registration process during the camp.
Among those who attended was Harishankar, a resident of Usmanpur in Aliganj, whose legs have been impaired since childhood. He said he came to know about the camp through the MLA’s Facebook page.
Harishankar travelled around four kilometres in a wheelchair with his 13-year-old daughter Harshita to reach the venue. He registered for a battery-operated tricycle to improve his mobility and independence.
Thirteen-year-old Prachi Bajpai from Bakshi Ka Talab also attended the camp with her parents. Prachi faces difficulty in walking and came to register for an assistive device that could help her in her daily activities.
Similarly, Surendra Sharma, a person with a disability from Naubasta, also visited the camp and completed registration for the equipment required by him.
The organisers said the assessment process was aimed at identifying the specific needs of beneficiaries so that appropriate assistive devices could be provided to them.
The initiative provided an opportunity for eligible persons with disabilities and senior citizens to access the registration and assessment process at a local venue without having to travel long distances for the initial formalities.
The camp also witnessed the participation of local public representatives and community members. Councillors Priyanka Bajpai and Rashmi Singh, along with Raghavram Tiwari, Mansingh Yadav, Mandal president Shailendra Maurya, Pradeep Shukla, Satish Mishra, Sunil Singh, Meena Pandey, Vishal Singh, Vinod Awasthi, Kishore Prajapati, Rita Singh, Aditya Gaur, Anil Mishra, Anita Shukla, Shailendra Swarnkar, Ankush Bajpai, Satyadev Singh, Manish Bajpai and Gaurav Awasthi were among those present.
The camp was intended to facilitate access to assistive devices for vulnerable sections of the community by bringing assessment and registration services closer to beneficiaries. The participation of families also helped beneficiaries complete the registration process and communicate their requirements to the ALIMCO assessment team.
