Raipur, August 2026: Once confined largely to household responsibilities, Sangeeta Dahariya of Baihersari village in Bodla development block of Kabirdham district has emerged as a strong example of rural women’s empowerment. After joining Bihan, the state’s National Rural Livelihood Mission initiative, she transformed her skills into a source of self-employment and has now become a ‘Lakhpati Didi’, strengthening her family’s financial position while inspiring other women in her village.
Beauty Parlour Provides Rs 10,000 Monthly Income
Sangeeta now successfully runs a beauty parlour in her village and earns a regular income of around Rs 10,000 per month. Through Bihan, she received access to credit facilities, which helped her expand and strengthen her small business.
Her growing income has enabled her to contribute towards household expenses as well as support the education and future of her children. Her daughter is currently studying in Class 11, while her son is in Class 6.
Sangeeta says she never imagined that her skills would one day become the financial strength of her entire family.
“I have now become a Lakhpati Didi. The support of our Vishnu Bhaiya and the government’s schemes has played a major role in this achievement. These initiatives have given millions of women like us an opportunity to become self-reliant,” she said.
Training and Financial Support Changed Her Life
Sangeeta said that before joining Bihan, most of her time was spent managing household responsibilities. Her association with the programme gave her access to training, financial assistance and, importantly, the confidence to pursue an independent livelihood.
The opportunity proved to be a turning point in her life. Today, she earns a respectable income, contributes to her family’s financial needs and stands firmly on her own feet.
Her journey highlights the impact that skill development and access to financial resources can have on women in rural communities. By turning an existing skill into a viable business, Sangeeta has not only improved her own economic condition but has also demonstrated the potential for other women to pursue entrepreneurship.
Bihan Promotes Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, initiatives such as Bihan are aimed at strengthening the economic position of rural women through self-help groups.
Women associated with these groups receive access to livelihood opportunities, financial assistance, training and avenues for self-employment.
