Patna, October 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary attended the Bhavanjali Dharohar 2026 programme organised by the Patna Literary Festival at Bapu Tower in Patna on Thursday.

Extending his greetings and best wishes on the occasion of Navratri, the Chief Minister said he was pleased to attend the event. He noted that such programmes provide an important platform to discuss Bihar’s rich civilisation, culture, literature and intellectual traditions, while promoting development alongside the preservation of heritage.

Choudhary said Bihar possesses a rich cultural legacy, with regional languages such as Bhojpuri, Maithili, Angika, Bajjika and Magahi forming an integral part of its cultural identity. He stressed the need for sustained efforts to preserve and promote these languages.

He said work was underway to introduce regional languages in primary schools in line with the National Education Policy. The initiative aims to help younger generations remain connected with their languages, culture and traditions.

Highlighting Bihar’s ancient intellectual heritage, the Chief Minister referred to the historic legacy of Nalanda University, which stands as evidence of the state’s rich civilisation and cultural achievements thousands of years ago. He said Bihar has long been a major centre of knowledge and education.

Building on this distinguished tradition, Choudhary announced that the state government would work towards establishing Vikramshila University over the next year. He said the initiative would give fresh recognition to Bihar’s educational heritage and strengthen the state’s role in the field of knowledge.

The Chief Minister also emphasised the importance of music in everyday life, saying that alongside knowledge, music plays a vital role in promoting mental peace and well-being. The melodies and rhythms of music provide relaxation and can also have a positive impact on health.

He added that the state government would welcome initiatives in the music sector through public-private partnerships (PPP).

During the cultural evening, Choudhary witnessed a musical performance by Dr Sweta Singh Uma, who had travelled from Moscow, Russia, as well as a Kathak presentation by renowned dancer Sanyukta Sinha.

The Bhavanjali Dharohar 2026 programme is an initiative aimed at bringing literature, art, culture, heritage and ideas together on a common platform. Through the event, the organisers sought to promote Bihar’s rich cultural legacy and artistic traditions.

Khursheed Ahmed, founder and secretary of the Patna Literary Festival, welcomed the Chief Minister, while Satyajit, president of the festival, delivered the welcome address.

Pranav Kumar, Secretary of the Building Construction Department and the Art and Culture Department, along with other dignitaries, was also present at the event.
