New Delhi, Nov 2026 : Ahead of the INDIA bloc’s protest rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Delhi unit released a controversial poster titled ‘Thago Ka Mela’ (Fair of Thugs), targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several other opposition leaders.
Designed like a film poster, the graphic features Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray, among other INDIA bloc leaders.
The poster alleges that the purported gathering aims to spread rumours and create unrest in the country at the behest of anti-national forces to protect the political interests of opposition parties. Taking a swipe at the leaders, it carries the line: “Directed by Rahul Gandhi and produced by Akhilesh Yadav.”
Sharing the poster on X, the BJP’s Delhi unit said, “Today, at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, it’s going to be held again — ‘The Fair of Thugs’.” It further accused the opposition alliance of attempting to spread rumours and create anarchy to safeguard its political position.
The BJP’s attack came as the INDIA bloc prepared for a major protest gathering against alleged electoral irregularities and the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The opposition alliance is organising a ‘Chalo Dilli’ march, which will culminate in a rally at Ramlila Maidan. The protest is intended to highlight alleged discrepancies in the voter list revision exercise, oppose the SIR process and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The INDIA bloc is expecting a significant turnout, with opposition leaders, party workers and student groups likely to participate in the demonstration. The rally is also being viewed as an opportunity for the opposition parties to demonstrate unity over electoral issues.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police have strengthened security arrangements across the national capital ahead of the march. Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been imposed across Delhi districts, restricting gatherings at several key locations, including Jantar Mantar and the Election Commission office.
As part of the security arrangements, political leaders will be permitted to reach designated venues in their personal vehicles. Police and paramilitary personnel are also expected to be deployed in and around Ramlila Maidan to maintain law and order during the gathering.
The BJP’s poster has added to the political exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition ahead of the INDIA bloc’s demonstration, with electoral roll revision emerging as a major point of confrontation.
