Aizawl, September 2026: Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma today attended the closing ceremony of the North East Regional Muaythai Championship 2026, organised by the Mizoram Muaythai Association at R. Dengthuama Hall, Aizawl. Shri Lalmuanpuia Punte, MLA and Adviser to the Chief Minister; Shri Gavin Miguel Mylliem, MLA, Meghalaya; and Shri Ram Choudhary, General Secretary, United Muaythai Association of India, were among the special guests.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that Muaythai is one of the most prominent and popular contact sports in the world. Although it is yet to be included as an Olympic discipline, it has already developed into a professional sport capable of providing livelihood opportunities. He highlighted Mizo fighter Nazareth Lalthazuala, who has secured a contract with ONE Championship, as an example.
The Chief Minister said that contact sports are particularly suited to the youth of Mizoram and the North East states. He encouraged the youth to pursue their strengths and talents in sports with greater determination.
Calling upon the fighters participating in the championship to train harder and continue striving for excellence, the Chief Minister encouraged them to see sports not only as a source of livelihood but also as a means of bringing honour to the State and the community. He also said that sports can strengthen bonds among people and expressed confidence that the North East Regional Championship would further strengthen unity among the states of the North East.
Shri Lalmuanpuia Punte, Adviser to the Chief Minister, Shri Gavin Miguel Mylliem, MLA, Sohra, Meghalaya, and Shri Ram Choudhary, General Secretary, United Muaythai Association of India, also addressed the gathering.
Athletes from all the North Eastern states participated in the championship, with around 350 players competing in 100 categories.
