More than 10.93 crore tourists visited Rajasthan this year, State ranked fifth in the country in 2024

Provision of more than Rs 5,000 crore for tourism infrastructure
Jaipur, Sept 2026 : The tourism sector in the State is expanding rapidly. Till June this year, the State welcomed a staggering 10.85 crore domestic tourists and 8.45 lakh foreign tourists. In 2024, Rajasthan ranked fifth in the country in terms of domestic and foreign tourist visits.
Under the charismatic and able leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, the State Government is now focusing on making tourism a major driver of the State’s economy, employment and local self-employment. Accordingly, works worth more than Rs 5,000 crore have been provided for the development of facilities and robust infrastructure at tourist destinations.
In 2023, 17 crore 90 lakh domestic and 17 lakh foreign tourists visited the State. This number increased significantly in 2025, when 25 crore 25 lakh domestic and 19 lakh 45 thousand foreign tourists visited Rajasthan.
The State Government is emphasising the integration of tourism with religious, rural, heritage, eco and adventure tourism, along with local art, handicrafts, cuisine and folk culture. The Chief Minister himself is regularly reviewing projects related to tourism, Devasthan and art and culture. The Government believes that Rajasthan’s thousands-of-years-old heritage can be preserved while simultaneously linking it with economic development and employment.
New Policies to Promote Investment and Employment
On the initiative of the Chief Minister, several new policies have been introduced for the expansion of tourism. The Rajasthan Tourism Unit Policy-2024 has been implemented to encourage private investment and new tourism units in the tourism sector. Thereafter, the Rajasthan Tourism Policy-2025 was introduced to provide a broader foundation for tourism development. The Rajasthan Film Tourism Promotion Policy-2025 has also been implemented to establish the State as a major centre for national and international film production and to simplify procedures related to film shooting.
Under Rajasthan Tourism Infrastructure and Capacity Building, works worth more than Rs 5,000 crore have been proposed for expanding tourism facilities. The focus is on developing various tourism sectors along with facilities, branding and basic infrastructure at tourist destinations.
IIFA and Wed in India Strengthen Branding
The 25th IIFA Awards ceremony held in Jaipur gave a new identity to Rajasthan’s global branding in the fields of tourism, art and culture, and films. At the same time, the first-ever Wed in India Expo was organised in Jaipur to promote destination weddings.
To promote domestic tourism, the Rajasthan Domestic Travel Mart and the Indian Responsible Tourism State Summit and Award were organised in Jaipur in 2024 and 2025.
Focus on Tourist Safety
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has issued clear directions that tourists should be provided with a safe and convenient environment in the State. Keeping this in view, the Tourist Assistance Force launched a special campaign from February 15, 2024, to provide a safe and respectful environment to tourists, particularly women tourists. Under the campaign, action was taken against around 1,583 persons. An online feedback system was also introduced at major tourist destinations and government monuments from February 2024.
From Ghoomar to Rajasthani Food, Culture Also a Part of Tourism
To connect Rajasthan’s traditional cuisine and folk culture with tourism, a Rajasthani Food Festival was organised during the Maru Mahotsav in Jaisalmer and the Rajasthan Day celebrations in Jaipur. A Rajasthani food kiosk has also been established at Central Vista in New Delhi.
For the first time, Ghoomar Festival-2025 was organised on a large scale at all divisional headquarters of the State. With the support of UNESCO India, 214 artists and handicraft workers were provided training in self-employment. Heritage certificates have been issued to 81 heritage hotels and properties in the State. To promote film tourism, permission was granted for the shooting of 108 films, documentaries and TV serials.
1.12 Lakh Senior Citizens Undertook Pilgrimage
Along with religious tourism, keeping in view the faith of senior citizens, 1.12 lakh senior citizens were facilitated to undertake pilgrimage under the Senior Citizen Pilgrimage Scheme of the Devasthan Department. Of these, 98,777 travelled by rail and 12,963 senior citizens travelled by air. Approvals worth more than Rs 25 crore have been issued over the last two years for religious festivals and events at government temples. An online application facility for trust registration has also been introduced.
Conservation of Stepwells, Museums and Panoramas
On the initiative of the Chief Minister, work related to heritage conservation has also gained momentum. An amount of Rs 1.30 crore is being spent on the restoration of Dhularaoji Baori and Bora ki Baori in Jaipur and the restoration of Jamwaramgarh. Works worth Rs 5 crore for the conservation, restoration and upgradation of the Government Museum and Fort in Ajmer are in progress. Upgradation work is also underway at nine government museums in Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Mandore, Ahar, Bharatpur, Mount Abu, Alwar, Chittorgarh and Bikaner.
Construction work on seven panoramas is in progress in the State. These include Shri Mahavir Ji Panorama in Karauli, Jain Muni Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj Panorama in Ajmer, Karma Bai Panorama in Didwana-Kuchaman, Bhamashah Panorama in Chittorgarh, Rao Chandrasen Panorama in Jodhpur, Gokula Jat Panorama in Bharatpur and Jaisalmer Panorama.
Promotion of Art, Literature and Vedic Education
Grants of more than Rs 1 crore have been approved for institutions associated with art and culture. The honorarium of teachers of Vedic schools has been increased from Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000 per month. The ‘Vijaydan Detha Literature Festival’ was organised in Jaipur, while a symposium on the status and role of women in the history of Rajasthan was organised in Bikaner.
The State Government aims to strengthen Rajasthan’s position not only among the major tourism destinations of the country but also among the leading tourism destinations of the world by linking tourism, religious faith, art and culture, and heritage with one another. Through this, new opportunities for employment and self-employment are being created for local artists, artisans, youth and people associated with the tourism industry, along with the conservation of heritage.
