CM Yogi’s contribution has been greatest in development of Lucknow: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister says Uttar Pradesh will continue to set new benchmarks in development and good governance

When the thinking of Centre and State moves in same direction, pace of development increases manifold: Defence Minister

Lucknow, August 2026 : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the greatest contribution to the development work carried out in Lucknow has been that of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Rajnath Singh remarked, “He (CM Yogi) did everything that he had promised. He extended wholehearted support to every project in Lucknow and also reviewed them from time to time. When the thinking of Central and State governments moves in the same direction, the pace of development naturally increases manifold.”

Defence Minister was addressing a gathering on Sunday, along with the Chief Minister, on the occasion of the foundation laying and Bhoomi Pujan of 12 development projects worth about Rs 101 crore for Lucknow Cantonment.

He stated, “Uttar Pradesh government, Ministry of Defense, and industry are working together to take forward the development process. Uttar Pradesh will continue to set new benchmarks in the fields of development and good governance. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is moving rapidly forward with the resolve of a Viksit Bharat. Ten to twelve years ago, India’s views were not taken seriously on international platforms, but today, when India speaks, the entire world listens attentively.”

Defence Minister added, “Viksit Bharat does not merely mean large projects and modern buildings. It means children receive good education, clean water reaches every family, young people get opportunities to play and showcase their talent, and children with disabilities do not feel left behind in society. Journey towards a Viksit Bharat should begin in major cities and reach every neighborhood, settlement and family.”

Rajnath Singh said that as cities and people’s needs change over time, regulations also need to change. He remarked, “A new arrangement has been implemented in cantonment areas, including Lucknow. Earlier, construction was permitted up to three storeys; now permission has been granted for construction up to five storeys. Lucknow Cantonment area will move forward rapidly with modern facilities while preserving its heritage.”

Defence Minister stated that change should not be limited to buildings alone; it should also be reflected in identity. In Lucknow Cantonment, the names of certain markets that had existed since the British era have been changed and renamed after personalities associated with the freedom struggle, social awareness and service to the nation.

Rajnath Singh said, “Today is an important day for Lucknow Cantonment. These 12 projects, worth about Rs 101 crore, reflect a commitment to Lucknow Cantonment's future. Through these projects, the resolve for a clean cantonment, better water supply, a brighter future for children, opportunities for youth to participate in sports and showcase their talent, dignified civic amenities, and a cantonment advancing with modern technology will be fulfilled.”
