Lucknow, October 2026 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, describing the party as synonymous with anarchy in the country. He warned that if the Congress continued to create disorder to conceal its political failures, the public would wipe out whatever remained of its political existence.

Yogi said the country's oldest political party was refusing to learn from its mistakes and was instead questioning democracy and constitutional institutions. Having lost public confidence, the Congress needed to understand why voters were repeatedly rejecting it, he said, adding that India's politically aware electorate would not tolerate anarchic and undemocratic conduct for long.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, the Chief Minister accused the Congress of creating an atmosphere of disorder through what he termed irresponsible political behaviour. He alleged that the party had earlier created an identity crisis within the country and subsequently lost public trust because of its corrupt intentions.

Despite repeated electoral setbacks, the Congress and its allies had failed to change their approach, he claimed. Instead of examining the reasons behind their rejection by voters, the party was attempting to destabilise elected governments, Yogi alleged.

He said Congress leaders should reflect on their own conduct rather than hold others responsible for their political failures.

Uttar Pradesh Voters Rejected Congress 41 Years Ago

Referring to the party's declining electoral support, Yogi said the people of Uttar Pradesh had voted the Congress out of power 41 years ago. The party has not returned to power in the state since 1985, he noted.

He added that voters in several other states had also gradually lost faith in the Congress. However, the party's leadership had failed to understand why it continued to face rejection.

Instead of acknowledging its shortcomings, the Congress was allegedly seeking to create instability within the democratic system, he said.

Congress Causing Inconvenience to Delhi Residents

The Chief Minister alleged that the Congress had been creating disorder in the national capital over the past several days, inconveniencing ordinary citizens and attempting to undermine the credibility of constitutional institutions.

He said democracy provided space for dissent and political opposition, but that freedom could not be used as a justification for disrupting public life or targeting constitutional bodies.

According to Yogi, the Congress had blurred the distinction between legitimate political opposition and disorderly conduct.

Congress Blames EVMs and Election Commission for Defeats

Questioning what he described as the party's double standards, Yogi said the Congress claimed credit for its own efforts when it won elections but blamed electronic voting machines (EVMs) and the Election Commission when it lost.

He also alleged that the party attempted to question or intimidate the judiciary when courts delivered verdicts on merit. Similar behaviour towards other constitutional institutions had become a feature of its political conduct, he claimed.

Yogi said abusing institutions, questioning their credibility and creating disorder were inappropriate in a democratic system.

Yogi Calls for Introspection Within Congress

The Chief Minister urged Congress leaders to examine what he described as the incompetence and corrupt conduct of their leadership. He said the party needed to consider changing leaders who had lost public confidence.

Blaming democratic institutions for electoral setbacks would not restore the Congress's declining political support, he added.

Yogi warned that the party should not underestimate the democratic awareness of the Indian electorate. If it continued to pursue what he termed undemocratic methods to create instability, it risked losing the political ground it still retained.

He urged the Congress to abandon confrontation, focus on substantive issues and participate in democratic debate on merit, saying such an approach would serve both the country's democratic system and the interests of its people.
