Directs Officials to Listen to Residents and Take Positive Decisions

Mumbai, Sept 2026 : A meeting was held at Vidhan Bhavan under the chairmanship of Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir to review issues concerning the rehabilitation and redevelopment of various housing societies associated with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).

The meeting included a detailed discussion on several pending matters concerning housing societies across Mumbai, including the redevelopment of the BDD Chawl project. Ahir directed the concerned officials to listen to the grievances and concerns of residents and find positive and practical solutions to their issues.

The meeting discussed difficulties related to the allotment of houses through the lottery system under the BDD Chawl redevelopment project, provision of alternative accommodation to families from the Worli BDD Chawl area and demands raised by residents living in transit camps.

Discussions were also held on providing alternative flats to 10 residents of Saraswati Building in Lower Parel. The representations submitted by Tanwade and 30 other residents of 365, Shivshakti Park, on N. M. Joshi Marg, were also taken up for consideration.

Other issues discussed included the proposed inclusion of Geetanjali Building in Byculla in the cluster of five MHADA buildings, rehabilitation of HIG and LIG residents of SVP Nagar Society, granting permanent ownership rights to families of Gharkul Society in Tagore Nagar and redevelopment of buildings in Abhyudaya Nagar.

Representations concerning Rustam Tadiwala Chawl and Shahsadan Society were also discussed during the meeting.

MHADA Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Jaiswal, Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board Chief Officer Milind Shambharkar, Mumbai Board Chief Officer Milind Borikar, along with concerned MHADA officials and representatives of the housing societies, were present at the meeting.
