New Delhi, Aug 2026 : DigiLocker has crossed 72.43 crore registered users and recorded around 72.86 crore document access transactions over the past three years, reflecting the rapid expansion of India’s digital public services ecosystem, Parliament was informed on Wednesday.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Rajya Sabha that the UMANG platform has also witnessed significant growth, with more than 11.66 crore registered users and approximately 798 crore transactions during the last three years.
The initiatives are part of the government’s broader Digital India programme, launched in July 2015 in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of using technology to empower citizens and make public services more accessible.
Under the programme, the government has introduced several digital platforms aimed at improving access to services and enabling seamless, citizen-centric delivery.
As of July 31, 2026, approximately 2,575 services were available through UMANG across the country. These include 880 services provided by the Central Government and 1,695 services offered by state governments.
DigiLocker, meanwhile, offered access to around 5,437 document types and services. Of these, 661 were provided by the Central Government and 4,776 by state governments.
Vaishnaw also highlighted the expansion of the Common Service Centre (CSC) network, particularly to improve access to digital services in rural and remote parts of the country.
CSCs function as access points for a wide range of citizen-centric services, including government services, banking, financial services, insurance, pension facilities and utility payments.
As of June 30, 2026, a total of 4,07,122 CSCs were operational at the Gram Panchayat level across the country. Of these, 70,069 were being operated by women Village Level Entrepreneurs, the minister said.
Both UMANG and DigiLocker are available through mobile applications as well as web portals, allowing citizens to access government services and digital documents from virtually anywhere.
The platforms have also been integrated with key components of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, including Aadhaar, eSign and API Setu, along with other major digital systems.
According to the minister, such integration has helped create a more seamless and paperless mechanism for delivering public services.
Both platforms provide secure authentication, digital verification of documents and consent-based sharing of information. These features reduce the need for citizens to make physical visits to government offices and minimise dependence on paper-based processes.
The growing adoption of DigiLocker, UMANG and CSCs indicates the government’s continuing efforts to expand digital inclusion while making public services more accessible, transparent and efficient for citizens across the country.
