New Delhi, Sep 2026 : The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed CG Foods India, the manufacturer of popular Wai Wai noodles, to stop manufacturing certain products after food safety officials allegedly found broken noodles collected from the factory floor being used to prepare bhujia, Reuters reported.
The action was taken following an inspection at the company's manufacturing facility in Rajasthan. CG Foods India is part of CG Corp Global, led by Nepali billionaire Binod Chaudhary, who is popularly known for building the Wai Wai noodle brand.
According to the FSSAI, inspectors discovered that broken noodles gathered from the factory floor were being reprocessed into bhujia without undergoing heat treatment. The investigation specifically covered two Wai Wai-branded bhujia products manufactured at the facility.
Food safety authorities also seized nearly 32,000 kg of stock during the inspection. In addition, officials found 1,925 boxes of expired finished products at the premises.
The FSSAI said samples of the products had been collected and sent for testing, while legal proceedings had been initiated against the food business operator over the alleged violations. The authority's action forms part of broader efforts to enforce food safety and hygiene standards across the country.
The development comes as food safety authorities in several states have intensified inspections of restaurants, food manufacturers, warehouses and other establishments to identify violations involving product quality, hygiene and labelling.
Earlier, Maharashtra food safety officials conducted a raid at a warehouse in Navi Mumbai and reportedly found nearly 5,000 cartons of consumer products belonging to several major brands, including Nestle, Unilever, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo.
Officials alleged that expiry dates and nutritional information on some products had been tampered with. Chemicals and machinery were reportedly used to remove existing information from packaging and replace it with altered details.
Among the products seized during the Maharashtra operation were Lay's and Kurkure chips, Maggi Masala Noodles, Thums Up and Limca beverages, and Knorr Mushroom Soup.
Maharashtra FDA chief Tukaram Mundhe has also emerged as a prominent figure in the state's intensified food safety enforcement drive. Last month, the state FDA suspended the licences of four Domino's Pizza outlets and one Pizza Hut outlet following inspections that reportedly uncovered multiple violations.
The latest action against CG Foods underscores the authorities' increasing focus on manufacturing practices, product handling, hygiene and compliance with food safety regulations.
