Ahmedabad, Aug 2026 : Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Wednesday reflected on his early struggles and said the millions of young Indians working at project sites across the country remind him of his own journey as a teenager who left his hometown in search of opportunities.
In a social media post on X, Adani recalled leaving home for Mumbai at the age of 16 and stepping into an unfamiliar city without the security and comforts of family life. He said the determination and aspirations he sees among young workers at Adani Group project sites across India mirror the experiences of his own youth.
“From every corner of the country, when young people leave behind their homes, their families, arriving at our Project Sites with dreams in their eyes, I see my own journey reflected in them,” Adani said.
Recalling the beginning of his journey, he highlighted his decision at 16 to travel to Mumbai, describing it as his first major step towards an uncertain future.
“16 years of age. The first step toward Mumbai,” he wrote.
Adani said his early years in Mumbai were marked by the absence of the familiar comforts of home. He did not have his mother's home-cooked meals, his father's protection or a predetermined career path. Instead, he said, he relied on his willingness to work hard and learn something new every day.
“No mother's home-cooked meals. No sense of a father's protection. No predetermined path. Just the courage of hard work and the desire to learn something new every day,” he said.
The industrialist said those memories have gained a new meaning as he observes young people from different parts of India working far away from their families. Many of them, he noted, have left their homes with aspirations of improving their lives and contributing to the country's growth.
Adani said he sees his own story in these young workers, who are separated from their loved ones while working to build a better future through their efforts.
“Today, in those millions of young people, I see my own story — those who are far from home, far from loved ones, but are shaping their future and India's future with the sweat of their brow,” he stated.
His remarks were shared as part of the second episode of “My Words, With My Loved Ones,” a series in which Adani reflects on personal memories, important life experiences and lessons that have shaped his journey.
Through the series, Adani has been sharing personal reflections beyond his corporate career, focusing on perseverance, ambition, family and the experiences that influenced his approach to life and business.
