Scheme Provides Support, Makes Goat Rearing a Strong Livelihood Base
Mohla, Sept 2026: As the district of Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki is predominantly tribal and forested, livestock rearing plays an important role in the livelihoods of rural families. Due to favourable local conditions, low costs and the easy availability of fodder, goat rearing is increasingly becoming an effective source of self-employment and income for rural women. In this context, Hina Parveen of Mohla has taken a step towards strengthening her family’s financial condition by availing the benefits of the State Goat Entrepreneurship Scheme.
With the objective of promoting women’s empowerment and rural livelihoods, the Department of Animal Husbandry provided beneficiary Hina Parveen, wife of Amjad Khan, residing on Bhojtola Road in Mohla, with 13 goats and two male goats under the State Goat Entrepreneurship Scheme.
Hina did not view the livestock received through the scheme merely as government assistance. Instead, she turned it into the foundation of her self-employment and, through hard work and dedication, made goat rearing a major source of livelihood for her family.
After receiving the benefits under the scheme, Hina paid special attention to the feeding, breeding and overall care of the goats. Over time, the number of goats increased, while the sale of young goats began generating additional income for the family. This helped improve the family’s financial condition and made it easier to meet their household needs.
Hina is using the income generated from goat rearing to meet the family’s daily expenses, support her children’s education and fulfil other household requirements. Goat farming has not only provided her family with a regular source of income but has also strengthened Hina’s confidence and sense of self-reliance.
Today, through her hard work, Hina is providing financial support to her family while also emerging as an inspiration for other women in the region. She says that women can use government schemes to establish their own sources of self-employment and improve their families’ economic conditions through their skills, determination and hard work.
The State Goat Entrepreneurship Scheme is proving to be an important initiative for connecting women in rural and tribal areas with self-employment opportunities, increasing their income and strengthening their economic independence.
