Deputy Chief Minister Shinde Visits Chakan; Inspects Road Repair Works

Pune, Aug 2026 : The Maharashtra government is committed to addressing the difficulties faced by entrepreneurs in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial area and preventing industries from relocating, Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde said on Sunday.
Shinde said the government was taking both immediate and long-term measures to provide adequate infrastructure to industries and find a permanent solution to traffic congestion in the region.
The Deputy Chief Minister visited Talegaon and Chakan to inspect ongoing road repair works and held a meeting with representatives of the industrial sector. Industries Minister Uday Samant, Legislative Council member Dr Neelam Gorhe, MLAs Sharad Sonawane and Babaji Kale, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, industrialists, representatives of industrial associations and senior officials from various departments were present.
During his visit, Shinde inspected several traffic-congestion hotspots in the Chakan industrial area and reviewed the ongoing repair work. He also examined the use of M-60 hardener for filling potholes and the installation of directly cast patches on roads damaged by heavy rains.
He said the new technology would allow damaged roads to be restored quickly, enabling heavy vehicles to resume movement within a short period.
The large number of potholes on the Chakan-Shikrapur route has been causing severe traffic congestion and affecting industrial operations. Since conventional asphalt repairs often fail to withstand heavy monsoon conditions, authorities are using geopolymer techno-patch material and M-6 RMC with hardener to improve road durability.
According to the government, the geopolymer mixture sets within about 30 to 45 minutes, allowing traffic to resume soon after potholes are repaired. At severely damaged locations, precast panels are being transported by trailers and installed directly on the road.
To address infrastructure-related problems in the industrial belt on a permanent basis, a special nodal committee headed by the District Collector has been established. The committee will meet every Friday and focus on issues concerning roads, drainage, footpaths, street lighting and other essential infrastructure.
Shinde said repairs on the 54-km Talegaon-Shikrapur route, the Nashik Phata-Rajgurunagar road and internal roads in the industrial area would be expedited. He also directed that future road projects should incorporate footpaths, utility corridors and cycling tracks.
The government is also considering the development of workers’ townships through industrial clusters to reduce commuting time for employees. In addition, MahaMetro has been directed to prepare a development plan for metro corridors connecting Nigdi to Chakan, Chakan to Rajgurunagar and Talegaon to Shikrapur.
To ensure quicker resolution of industrialists’ grievances, MIDC executive engineers and other officials will remain physically available in the industrial area one day every week. Entrepreneurs have also been encouraged to use the ‘Maitri’ app to submit their concerns and seek assistance.
The meeting also discussed increasing the capacity of electricity transformers and planning load management, appointing an independent agency for waste disposal, and resolving issues related to water supply and police administration.
Shinde said coordinated action by various government departments would help improve infrastructure, ease traffic congestion and create a more business-friendly environment in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial corridor. The government’s initiatives have also reportedly reassured industrialists who had been considering relocating their businesses outside the region.
