India Jewellery Park to Make Maharashtra a Global Hub for Jewellery Manufacturing and Exports: CM Devendra Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Launches India Jewellery Park, Mumbai Project at Mahape

Thane, October 2026: Maharashtra has the potential to emerge as a leading global centre for jewellery manufacturing and exports, backed by Mumbai and the state's business capabilities, skilled workforce, secure industrial environment and entrepreneurial legacy, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday.

Speaking at the launch of the India Jewellery Park, Mumbai project in the TTC Industrial Area at Mahape, Navi Mumbai, Fadnavis said the initiative would become an important centre for the future growth of the jewellery industry through the adoption of modern technology and coordination between the government and industry.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, Industries Department Principal Secretary Dr P. Anbalagan, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Chief Executive Officer Dipendra Kushwaha, Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) Chairman Kirit Bhansali and Vice-Chairman Shaunak Parikh were among those present.

Maharashtra’s Industrial Strength to Open Global Opportunities

Fadnavis said Mumbai and Maharashtra were internationally recognised for their business capabilities, skilled workforce and professional expertise. The state has several advantages essential for the gem and jewellery industry, including skilled artisans, entrepreneurial talent, an established trade network and a favourable industrial environment.

The India Jewellery Park offers an opportunity to leverage these strengths and position Maharashtra as a major destination in the global jewellery industry, he said.

Industry Must Adapt to Changing Global Trade

Referring to changes in the global economic and trade environment, the Chief Minister said developments in major markets such as the United States and China were creating new challenges for international trade.

Industries must closely study changing market conditions and embrace modern technology, product innovation and emerging export opportunities to remain competitive, he said.

Fadnavis expressed confidence that India Jewellery Park would provide the jewellery industry with a modern platform to respond to these changes and strengthen its global presence.

22-Acre Facility to Support Long-Term Industry Growth

A state-of-the-art jewellery manufacturing centre is being developed across 22 acres at Mahape. Fadnavis described the project as an important milestone in the long-term development of the industry.

He said that three to four decades from now, the industry leaders who worked towards establishing India Jewellery Park would be remembered for their contribution to the sector.

The Chief Minister stressed that providing land alone was not sufficient to establish an industry. Reliable electricity, water supply, roads, capital, infrastructure and timely approvals from various departments were equally essential.

He directed officials to promptly resolve any difficulties faced during the implementation of the project and assured that the state government would extend all necessary support to complete the work at a faster pace.

Fadnavis said effective coordination and partnership between the government and industry were essential for industrial growth. The government's role was to understand industry requirements and provide the necessary facilities and administrative support.

Jewellery Park to Contribute to Viksit Bharat 2047

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the goal of building a developed India by 2047. Manufacturing, exports, employment generation and entrepreneurship will play a crucial role in achieving this vision, Fadnavis said.

As India moves towards becoming a USD 5 trillion economy, Maharashtra is also working towards the target of a USD 1 trillion economy. Projects such as India Jewellery Park would strengthen the state's economic growth and contribute to these broader objectives, he added.

₹25,000 Crore Investment and One Lakh Jobs Expected: Eknath Shinde

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the India Jewellery Park project was expected to attract investments of approximately ₹25,000 crore and generate one lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The 22-acre, state-of-the-art jewellery manufacturing facility at Mahape would help Maharashtra become a major global centre for gem and jewellery manufacturing, trade and exports, he said.

Mumbai has a rich legacy of gem and jewellery trading, particularly through Zaveri Bazaar. Centres such as the Bharat Diamond Bourse in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and the Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ) have strengthened Mumbai's position in the global diamond trade and jewellery exports.

More than 50 per cent of India's total gem and jewellery exports originate from Maharashtra, particularly Mumbai, Shinde said.

To further strengthen the industry, the state government has set targets under its Gems and Jewellery Policy to attract ₹1 lakh crore in investments, generate five lakh jobs and double Maharashtra's gem and jewellery exports.

India Jewellery Park is planned to accommodate more than 2,000 manufacturing units. Shinde said the government had made provisions for essential infrastructure, including electricity, water, roads and other facilities, while also considering accommodation for workers.

He assured industry representatives that officials would promptly address implementation-related challenges and that the government would provide full support to ensure timely progress.

India Jewellery Park to Enhance Navi Mumbai’s Global Significance: Ganesh Naik

Forest Minister Ganesh Naik said government agencies were working to ensure that the benefits of industrialisation reached the wider public.

Navi Mumbai was expected to strengthen its identity as a data centre hub, while India Jewellery Park would further enhance the city's importance on the global industrial and commercial map, he said.

Naik added that despite challenges such as natural disasters, droughts and rising heatwaves, the state government was working to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers, workers, students and other citizens.

GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali delivered the introductory address, outlining the background of the project and its significance for the development of the gem and jewellery industry.
