New Delhi, Aug 2026: India has extended 10 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to Nepal to support ongoing relief operations after devastating floods caused widespread destruction across the Himalayan nation.
India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, formally handed over the relief consignment to Nepal’s Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Khadak Raj Paudel. The aid includes essential relief materials intended to assist communities affected by flooding and landslides.
The assistance comes as Nepal continues to deal with the impact of heavy monsoon rains, which have damaged homes, infrastructure and agricultural land and displaced thousands of families. Rescue and relief operations are underway in several affected areas, with authorities facing significant challenges due to the scale of the disaster.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reaffirmed India’s support for Nepal, saying New Delhi remains committed to providing all possible assistance during the crisis.
“Standing by Nepal, always,” Jaiswal posted on X, underlining the close ties between the two neighbouring countries and India’s readiness to assist Nepal during emergencies.
The latest relief assistance is part of India’s broader “Neighbourhood First” approach, under which New Delhi has regularly extended humanitarian support to neighbouring countries affected by natural disasters and other emergencies.
India and Nepal have a long history of cooperation in disaster response. India has previously provided relief supplies, medical assistance and reconstruction support to Nepal following major natural disasters, including the devastating 2015 earthquake, as well as during subsequent flood emergencies.
Officials said the latest aid package reflects India’s commitment to regional solidarity and humanitarian cooperation. The relief materials are expected to strengthen Nepal’s immediate response capabilities and provide essential support to communities struggling with the effects of the floods.
India and Nepal share longstanding cultural, historical and economic ties, with humanitarian assistance and disaster-response cooperation forming an important part of their bilateral relationship. The latest initiative further highlights New Delhi’s continued readiness to support Nepal during times of crisis.
