Hnahthial, Sept 2026: As part of Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026, the Child Development Project Office organised an “Indigenous, Traditional Play and Storytelling Day” for children at the JBR Futsal Ground in Hnahthial district on Thursday.
The programme was inaugurated and conducted under the guidance of Child Development Project Officer F. Lalnuntluangi. During the event, Dr John Zonunmawia, Medical Officer under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), spoke to parents about important aspects of child growth and development.
Dr Zonunmawia told the mothers present that it is important to regularly monitor whether infants and children are achieving developmental milestones appropriate for their age. He explained the issue of developmental delay and said that if it is not detected at an early stage, it can affect a child’s mental and physical development and may have an impact on various aspects of life even after adulthood.
He said that during health check-ups conducted at different centres between April and September this year, a significant number of children with developmental delays had been identified. He urged parents to ensure that their children undergo regular health and developmental check-ups.
The programme also featured traditional Mizo storytelling and a range of games and recreational activities for children. These included musical chairs, ball pool, rubber jumping, traditional running and racing games, group activities and football.
The games were followed by a Poshan Rally as part of the ongoing Rashtriya Poshan Maah campaign, aimed at spreading awareness about nutrition, child health and healthy development.
