New Delhi, September 2026 : Jharkhand minister Sudivya Kumar died at Mercy Hospital in Giridih after his health suddenly deteriorated late Saturday night, sending shockwaves across the city and the state. The minister was rushed to the hospital after complaining of chest pain but could not be saved despite immediate medical treatment.
According to available information, Kumar had been away from Giridih for several days and returned to the district only two days ago. During the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, he was at his residence in Harsingraiyadih when he suddenly complained of chest pain.
Family members and those around him immediately rushed him to Mercy Hospital, located near the city’s bus stand. Doctors examined the minister and began treatment soon after his arrival. However, his condition remained critical and he died despite the medical team’s efforts.
Kumar was serving as Jharkhand’s minister for Higher and Technical Education, Urban Development and Housing, Tourism, Art and Culture, and Sports and Youth Affairs. His sudden death has left political leaders, government officials, party workers and residents of Giridih deeply shocked.
As news of his demise spread, a large number of people gathered outside the hospital. Supporters, party workers and members of the public reached the facility to pay their respects and express their grief.
Senior government officials also arrived at the hospital following the news. The district magistrate, superintendent of police and Dhanbad SSP, along with other senior officials, reached the spot as arrangements were made following the minister’s death.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of its leader through a post on its official X account. The party described Kumar as a dedicated comrade and said his death was an irreparable loss for the organisation, the state government and Jharkhand.
“The transience of life… Those who were our companions just yesterday are now only memories with us today. The uncertainty of life has once again left us in profound sorrow and grief,” the JMM said.
The party remembered Kumar for his struggles, public service and contributions, saying his work would remain etched in the memory of the organisation and the people of Jharkhand. It also conveyed heartfelt condolences to his family and prayed for peace for the departed soul.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo also paid tribute to the minister and expressed condolences to his family and supporters.
Kumar’s sudden demise has cast a pall of gloom over Giridih and triggered an outpouring of grief across political circles. Party colleagues, supporters and residents mourned the loss of a leader whose death came unexpectedly following a sudden health emergency.
