Kerala-Based Genrobotics Wins ISRO Contract, Enters Space Robotics and Satellite Engineering

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 2026 : Kerala-based robotics company Genrobotics Innovations has secured a contract from the Indian Space Research Organisation’s U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), marking a significant expansion into space robotics and advanced aerospace engineering.

According to The Economic Times, the contract represents a major milestone for the company, which initially gained recognition for developing robotic systems to address hazardous sanitation challenges and is now extending its expertise to satellite missions.

Under the agreement, Genrobotics will design and develop a high-precision articulated boom arm system for ISRO satellites. The project includes developing an indigenous mechanism for reflector deployment and pointing on satellite decks, supporting the accurate positioning and orientation of communication reflectors and payload instruments.

The company’s Space and Advanced Robotics division will develop a multi-link articulated boom arm engineered to withstand the stresses of rocket launches and the extreme thermal and vacuum conditions encountered in space. The system is expected to contribute to the precision, operational reliability and performance of future satellite missions.

The contract also highlights the expanding capabilities of Kerala’s deep-tech ecosystem and the potential of Indian companies to contribute to the country’s space programme through indigenous design, engineering and manufacturing.

From Sanitation Robots to Space Technology

Founded in 2017, Genrobotics first attracted national and international attention with Bandicoot, a robotic system developed to eliminate manual scavenging and improve the safety and dignity of sanitation workers.

The experience of building robots capable of operating in toxic, confined and corrosive environments helped the company develop expertise in actuator control, materials engineering, precision motion systems and artificial intelligence-driven robotics.

Genrobotics subsequently expanded into healthcare, heavy industry and defence. Its product portfolio includes G-Gaiter, a robotic rehabilitation platform, and GENBOT, a heavy-duty robotic system designed for applications across defence, oil and gas, and industrial operations.

The company has also integrated Physical AI and reinforcement learning into its robotic platforms to enhance adaptability, movement control and operational precision. These capabilities have supported its expansion into international markets, including the UAE, South Africa, Singapore and Malaysia.

Expanding Advanced Robotics Capabilities

Genrobotics has established strategic relationships with international organisations, including South African defence technology company Armscor, while engaging with space-sector stakeholders such as the Dubai Space Agency.

The company is also strengthening its space and advanced robotics operations through dedicated research and manufacturing infrastructure in Thiruvananthapuram.

Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Vimal Govind M K said the company had built its engineering capabilities by developing robotic systems designed to function in corrosive environments and withstand high torque and extreme mechanical stress.

He described the transition to space mechanisms as a natural progression of the company’s technological journey, adding that ISRO’s confidence in Genrobotics validated the capabilities developed over the years.

Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Jaleesh P said the company had consistently focused on applications requiring precision, dependability and mission-critical performance.

He noted that Genrobotics’ robotic platforms were designed for environments where reliability is essential and operational failure is not an option.

The ISRO contract marks a new phase in Genrobotics’ growth, taking its engineering expertise beyond terrestrial applications and into the demanding field of satellite technology. It also underscores the growing role of domestic deep-tech companies in developing specialised systems for India’s expanding space sector.
