Lalnilawma Reviews Egg Production Project in Tawi

Aizawl, Aug 2026: Minister Prof. Lalnilawma, who is also the MLA from Tawi constituency, on Thursday visited Thingsulthliah, Seling and Tlangnuam villages to inspect the progress of the “Banakaih Project for Egg Production”, being implemented through his MLA Fund.

During the visit, the Minister reviewed the implementation of the projects, interacted with beneficiaries, assessed the progress made so far and discussed their requirements and difficulties.

Prof. Lalnilawma said the ongoing initiative was being implemented as a pilot project to assess its feasibility and effectiveness. He said the project could be expanded depending on the results and the needs identified during its implementation.

The Minister said he was making every effort to ensure the success of the initiative, while stressing that its ultimate success would depend significantly on the beneficiaries and their participation.

The project was launched as a pilot initiative in different villages of the Tawi constituency on May 21 this year. Under the scheme, beneficiaries who have taken up poultry farming have now started producing eggs.

As part of the project, financial assistance from the MLA Fund is being provided for the construction of poultry sheds. Under the funding arrangement, 75 per cent of the cost of poultry chicks is borne by the MLA Fund, while the remaining 25 per cent is contributed by the beneficiaries.

The MLA Fund is also providing 75 per cent of the cost of poultry feed for a period of five months, with the beneficiaries contributing the remaining share.

The initiative is aimed at encouraging poultry farming and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for people in the Tawi constituency. By supporting poultry sheds, chicks and feed during the initial period, the project seeks to help beneficiaries establish small-scale egg production units and gradually become economically self-reliant.

During his visit, Prof. Lalnilawma reviewed the ground-level implementation of the scheme and interacted with poultry farmers to understand the challenges they were facing. He also sought feedback on the progress of the pilot project and the support required for its successful continuation.

The Minister indicated that the experience gained from the pilot phase would help determine whether the initiative should be expanded to more beneficiaries and areas. He also emphasised the importance of ensuring that the assistance provided under the scheme translates into sustainable income generation for participating families.

Pu Lalnundika, Project Director, DRDO Aizawl, and Pi Malsawmhriatzuali, Block Development Officer (BDO), Thingsulthliah, accompanied Minister Prof. Lalnilawma during the inspection visit.

The initiative is expected to strengthen local poultry production while providing beneficiaries with an additional source of livelihood through egg production.
