Investment of Rs 2,320 Crore Proposed Through MoUs with 49 MSMEs
Mumbai, August 2026: Maharashtra’s industrial growth is set to receive a major boost with proposed investments worth Rs 2,320.97 crore through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed with 49 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Chakan-Bhosari industrial belt. The investment is expected to enhance production capacity, generate thousands of employment opportunities and further strengthen the industrial ecosystem around Pune, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.
The MoU signing programme was held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai in the presence of Chief Minister Fadnavis. Industries (Investment and Services) and Marathi Language Minister Dr Uday Samant, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Lokesh Chandra, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr Shrikar Pardeshi, Industries Department Principal Secretary Dr P. Anbalagan, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Chief Executive Officer Dipendra Singh Kushwah, Chief Minister’s Investment Advisor Kaustubh Dhavse, Industries Department Under Secretary Vinod Mendhe, Commissioner (MSME) Prerna Deshbhratar, Special Commissioner (MAITRI) Vaibhav Waghmare and senior officials and industry representatives were also present.
MSMEs to Drive Maharashtra’s Industrial Growth
Fadnavis said Maharashtra is the country’s “growth engine” and plays a crucial role in India’s economic and industrial development. The MSME sector has a major role in supplying components, spare parts, services and other products required by large industries, besides creating employment opportunities at the local level.
He said the strength of MSMEs provides an important foundation for the expansion of large industries. In particular, the sector plays a vital role in the automobile and engineering ecosystem in Pune and surrounding areas, where several major companies procure components and services from local MSMEs.
The Chief Minister said MSMEs are also helping create alternatives to imported products and supporting the transition from “local to global”. The latest MoUs, he added, mark another important milestone in Maharashtra’s industrial development journey.
The state government has established a dedicated mechanism for the planned and rapid development of the MSME sector. Fadnavis said the government has decided to conduct an MSME Census to obtain accurate information on the number, nature, employment generation, production capacity and requirements of MSMEs across Maharashtra.
Such data, he said, would enable the government to formulate more effective policies and provide targeted facilities to strengthen the sector.
Investment to Translate Into Actual Production
The Industries Department and MIDC will take speedy steps to provide land, infrastructure and other facilities required by the 49 MSMEs that have signed the MoUs. The companies have set a target of commencing production within one to two years.
The government expects the proposed investments to generate tangible benefits through increased production, employment, business opportunities and expansion of local supply chains.
Maharashtra to Retain Industrial Leadership
Fadnavis said Maharashtra continues to maintain its leading position in the country in areas including foreign direct investment, industries, manufacturing and startups. The government, he said, is consistently working to provide entrepreneurs with better facilities, strong infrastructure and a business-friendly environment.
He also pointed out that several industrial estates in Maharashtra were developed 30 to 40 years ago and now require modernisation to meet changing industrial requirements.
The government is working on a plan to grant such industrial estates the status of “industrial cities” and establish independent administrative mechanisms for them. The concept envisages using local tax revenues for administration, cleanliness and infrastructure development.
The initiative will initially be launched in Pune district, where industrial estates will gradually be transformed into modern industrial cities. This, the Chief Minister said, would provide industries with a more efficient, clean and investor-friendly environment while encouraging fresh investment and expansion of existing businesses.
Chakan Investment to Get Major Push: Uday Samant
Industries Minister Dr Uday Samant said the scale of investment expected in the Chakan region is so large that the land sought by entrepreneurs could become insufficient within a year.
He said infrastructure-related issues in the region are being addressed on priority and assured that the state government would continue to stand firmly behind entrepreneurs.
Rejecting speculation that entrepreneurs from the Chakan-Bhosari industrial belt were shifting their businesses outside Maharashtra, Samant said no entrepreneur from the state had left Maharashtra.
He asserted that investors and entrepreneurs continued to have full confidence in Maharashtra’s investment environment and the state government’s policies.
