Lucknow, Aug 2026 : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday announced that her party will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand independently, ruling out any electoral alliance with other political parties.
Mayawati made the announcement while reviewing the BSP’s organisational preparedness and support base in Punjab at a meeting in Lucknow. She directed party workers and office-bearers to intensify preparations for the elections and focus on improving the party’s electoral performance.
Explaining the decision to contest independently, Mayawati said electoral alliances had adversely affected the BSP in terms of both seats and vote share in the past.
“Electoral alliances cause the party to suffer losses in both seats and vote share. Therefore, the BSP will contest the elections on its own in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand,” she said.
The BSP chief instructed party leaders to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level, with particular emphasis on building an effective network up to the booth level. She said the party’s election preparations must be comprehensive and urged office-bearers to remain active in their respective areas.
Mayawati also directed party functionaries to ensure that candidates selected for the elections are hardworking, honest and committed to the interests of the people. She stressed that there should be no shortcomings in candidate selection or organisational preparations.
Calling for greater unity among party workers, Mayawati asked them to step up their grassroots activities and remain prepared to counter the strategies and electoral tactics of rival parties.
She also reviewed preparations for programmes commemorating the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram on October 9. Party leaders were instructed to ensure that the events are organised effectively and help strengthen the ideological base of the BSP.
Mayawati further emphasised the need to strengthen financial support for ‘Jan Kalyankari Diwas’, which will be observed on January 15, 2027.
According to the BSP chief, such programmes are important for promoting Ambedkarite ideology and strengthening the party’s movement among supporters and workers.
She reiterated that the BSP’s political objective was to pursue policies aimed at improving the lives of economically weaker and socially marginalised sections.
“The party’s goal is to advance policies that provide the poor, unemployed and marginalised sections with freedom from poverty and unemployment and the opportunity to live a life with self-respect,” she said.
Mayawati directed the party’s organisational machinery to remain fully active and election-ready in the run-up to the Assembly polls. She called upon workers at every level to maintain regular contact with voters, understand local concerns and strengthen the BSP’s presence across constituencies.
The announcement signals the BSP’s intention to pursue an independent electoral strategy in the three states, with the party relying on its own organisational network and support base rather than entering into pre-poll arrangements with other parties.
