Mumbai, August 2026: A new colouring book titled “18 Fundamental Rights Every Child Should Know” has been created by Nyay Sanstha and the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy to help children learn about their constitutional rights in an easy, engaging and enjoyable manner. The colouring book was recently launched by Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare.
The launch event was held at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai and was attended by Bombay High Court Justice Bharati Dangre, former Justice R.C. Chavan, Anisha Gopi and other prominent personalities from various fields. On the occasion, the organisations also launched a Constitution Fellowship programme in the state.
Designed to familiarise children with their rights from an early age, the colouring book will be made available free of cost. It explains 18 important rights of children, including the rights to shelter, nutrition, education and free legal assistance.
The book also addresses sensitive issues such as child marriage, child labour, ragging, bullying and sexual exploitation in a manner that is appropriate and easy for children to understand.
Minister Aditi Tatkare said the government remains committed to protecting the rights of children. She said the colouring book would strengthen these efforts by using a creative and child-friendly approach to spread awareness about their rights.
Tatkare said children would be able to learn about their rights in a simple and enjoyable manner while colouring the illustrations, helping the concepts remain firmly embedded in their minds.
She also welcomed the initiative to launch the Constitution Fellowship, saying that efforts to create greater awareness about the Constitution and the legal system were important for building an informed and empowered society.
During the programme, a presentation was also made by the Dharavi Dream Project. A rap song created on the theme of children's rights was also launched during the event.
