Fatehgarh Sahib/New Delhi, September 2026 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Saturday flagged off the second phase of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ from the historic and sacred land of Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab. She also addressed a large public gathering on the occasion. Before the yatra began, the Chief Minister paid obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Jyoti Saroop Sahib and paid tribute to the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri Ji.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the sacred land of Fatehgarh Sahib is a land of courage, sacrifice and martyrdom. The younger Sahibzadas had refused to bow before oppression. Today, the youth of Punjab too will neither stop nor bow before the menace of drugs and the drug mafia. From this sacred land, the strong voice of the people of Punjab must reach the system that has failed to take decisive action against drugs. Today, Punjab has risen and raised its voice against drugs.
Chief Minister meets families affected by drugs
Before the programme, the Chief Minister also interacted with families affected by drugs. She said the pain of these families was not the pain of one household alone, but the suffering of society as a whole. There are tears in the eyes of mothers, fathers are struggling to bring their children out of the grip of drugs, and the social and economic lives of many families have been affected. The fight against drugs is not the government’s alone; it is a fight for every family, every village and society as a whole. Protecting Punjab’s youth from drugs and connecting them with opportunities in education, employment, sports and development is a collective responsibility.
She said the people of Punjab had been promised action against drugs for years, but the problem remained serious. In 2022, promises were made to eliminate drugs within three to four months. Today, the people are asking: Has the drug menace been eliminated? Instead of giving one deadline after another, there is now a need for concrete action and accountability.
Sharp attack on AAP government
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, alleging that its failure to stop the drug network had broken the trust of Punjab’s families. If drugs are openly reaching streets and neighbourhoods, accountability must be fixed. She alleged that the system under the Aam Aadmi Party, led by Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, had failed to deliver results in line with the promises made to the people of Punjab. The BJP has repeatedly raised questions over allegations of corruption and alleged scams against the AAP government in Delhi, and the people of Punjab are now also seeking answers on governance, law and order, drugs and corruption. AAP has in the past rejected these allegations as politically motivated.
The Chief Minister said that those who spoke of a big model in Delhi were now being asked by the people of Punjab where Punjab stood after five years. Where is the action against drugs? Where is the safety of the youth? When will families get justice and relief? She also questioned the government over law and order and gangster activities in Punjab, and said decisive action against drugs, crime and corruption was necessary at the same time.
‘Punjab is not alone, the entire country stands with it’
The Chief Minister said that the people of Punjab were not alone in the fight to free the state from drugs. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has been continuously working to strengthen the country’s fight against drugs. The entire country stands with Punjab. The yatra against drugs is not merely a political programme, but will carry a message of awareness and public participation to every household in Punjab. Four BJP ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatras’ will travel through different parts of the state as part of a wider public outreach campaign, with the programme scheduled to reach all 117 Assembly constituencies.
‘A decisive battle will be fought against drugs’
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the land of Punjab had always shown the way in the fight against injustice and oppression. From the land of martyrdom in Fatehgarh Sahib, a resolve is being taken today to free Punjab from drugs, fear, crime and corruption and make it prosperous and happy once again. This yatra is not merely a 12- or 13-day journey. It is the beginning of a public awareness campaign that will reach every household in Punjab. There is no need to be afraid now. We stand with every family that raises its voice against drugs.
The Chief Minister appealed to the people of Punjab to actively participate in the campaign against drugs and unite to protect the future of their youth. She said, “There will be no more pleading; there will be a battle. This struggle will be against drugs. It will be a resolve to make Punjab drug-free. We will neither stop nor bow.”
Punjab BJP president Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon, BJP state in-charge Shri Satish Poonia, BJP national vice-president Shri Manpreet Singh Badal, senior leader Shri Avinash Rai Khanna, MLA Shri Ashwini Sharma, state general secretaries Shri Parminder Brar and Shri Rajesh Bagha, district president Shri Didar Singh Bhatti, along with several other BJP leaders and workers, were present at the programme.
