New Delhi, Sep 2026 : Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a series of meetings with senior executives of leading global companies in New York, highlighting investment opportunities emerging in India’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure and financial services sectors, according to an official statement posted on X on Friday.
During her meeting with Sanjeev Ahuja, Chairman and CEO of Tillman Holdings, Sitharaman discussed India’s policy framework and recent Budget measures aimed at facilitating investment in digital infrastructure. She highlighted the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, digital services and enterprise technology, which is driving sustained demand for data centres, high-capacity networks and reliable power infrastructure.
The Finance Minister said companies such as Tillman Holdings were well-positioned to participate in the next phase of India’s digital infrastructure expansion. Discussions also focused on opportunities to develop large-scale, resilient and sustainable digital infrastructure campuses capable of supporting the country’s growing technology requirements.
The discussions come as India continues to attract global investment in infrastructure and technology, with increasing demand for digital services supporting the expansion of data centres and associated power and connectivity infrastructure.
In another meeting, Sitharaman held discussions with Marsh Re CEO Dean Klisura and Devanshu Dhyani, the company’s head of strategy and corporate development. She highlighted India’s advantages for global professional-services and risk-management companies, including its large domestic market, skilled workforce, expanding infrastructure, digital capabilities and increasingly reform-oriented business environment.
Sitharaman also pointed to India’s strong economic performance, noting that the country recorded real GDP growth of 7.8 per cent in the first quarter of financial year 2026-27. She said the combination of economic growth and policy reforms was strengthening the environment for international companies seeking to expand their operations in India.
The Marsh Re team acknowledged the government’s reform-oriented approach and expressed interest in further expanding the company’s presence in India. The company also highlighted India’s regulatory environment and the role of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) in providing a level playing field for businesses.
Marsh Re also informed the Finance Minister that it had strengthened its focus on GIFT City and was increasing its engagement with the financial ecosystem there across various products and services.
Sitharaman separately met Alejandro Perez, Group Chief Operating Officer of BNY Mellon, with discussions focusing on India’s resilient economic trajectory and opportunities for deeper investment by global financial institutions.
The Finance Minister highlighted India’s 7.8 per cent real GDP growth in the first quarter of FY 2026-27, along with strong domestic demand, deepening financial markets and a reform-oriented policy environment. These factors, she said, continue to strengthen investor confidence in the Indian economy.
Perez highlighted BNY Mellon’s longstanding commitment to India and described the country as a critical market for the company’s global operations and growth strategy. He also outlined the company’s engagement with leading Indian institutions, including IITs, to develop and nurture high-quality talent.
He noted that BNY Mellon’s India operations are evolving beyond a traditional delivery centre, with the country increasingly emerging as a strategic global hub for innovation, technology and advanced capabilities, including AI.
The discussions also covered opportunities linked to India’s growing financial ecosystem, Digital Public Infrastructure, Global Capability Centres and GIFT City-IFSC. Sitharaman invited BNY Mellon’s team to visit GIFT-IFSC and explore the range of financial products and services available there.
