Talukas not included in drought list to be reviewed
Nagpur, September 2026 : The Maharashtra government has declared drought in 265 talukas due to inadequate rainfall, and talukas that have not been included in the list will be reviewed and provided assistance under Trigger-3, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday.
He assured that no one would be deprived of assistance while dealing with the drought situation in the state.
Fadnavis was speaking to the media about the drought situation in Maharashtra and the measures announced by the state government.
Drought conditions have been declared in 265 talukas affected by rainfall deficiency and other factors, with 12 relief measures and concessions being implemented in these areas.
The Chief Minister said drought-affected farmers would receive assistance for crop losses after completing the prescribed procedure. He added that all talukas that have not been included in the drought list would be reviewed and brought under Trigger-3 wherever applicable.
Drinking water to receive priority
Speaking about the availability of drinking water in drought-affected talukas, Fadnavis said a plan had been prepared for every district, with drinking water being given priority.
He said drinking water was available in most of the state’s water projects. Reservations for drinking water would be maintained until July-August, while the government would also examine whether surplus water could be made available for the Rabi season, depending on water availability.
Measures to address El Niño impact
Fadnavis said the situation arising from the El Niño phenomenon was being studied and that the impact could reach its peak by the end of February. Decisions were therefore being taken to ensure that necessary measures to deal with the situation were completed on priority, he said.
The Chief Minister also appealed to citizens to cooperate in tackling the drought situation. He urged people to avoid unnecessary expenditure and contribute in whatever way possible to support those living in drought-affected areas.
Flood situation in Gadchiroli
Fadnavis said a flood situation had developed in Bhamragad in Gadchiroli district following heavy rainfall in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
The administration was providing all possible assistance to those affected by the floods, he said, adding that he was in continuous contact with the local administration.
The Chief Minister said the flood situation was gradually improving and normal life was returning to the affected areas.
