New Delhi, Oct 2026 : The case involving Delhi minister Parvesh Verma, who has been accused of slapping a Gen-Z youth after the latter allegedly exposed corruption in a newly constructed road in Tilak Nagar, has reached the Delhi High Court.
The High Court has issued notices to Verma, the Delhi Police and others on a petition filed by advocate Onkar Rai on behalf of the alleged victim, Sahib Singh.
Reacting to the court’s order, Aam Aadmi Party Delhi unit president Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that the Delhi Police had been “exposed” while attempting to protect the minister. He claimed that Verma had slapped the young man after he raised allegations of corruption in a Public Works Department road project, but that the Delhi Police had not registered an FIR despite receiving a complaint.
In a post on X, Bhardwaj said the Delhi High Court had issued notices to the Delhi Police, Verma and others. He alleged that Verma had not only slapped Singh but had also taken away his mobile phone.
Bhardwaj further claimed that Singh had been receiving threatening phone calls and had sought an impartial investigation. He alleged that while the Delhi Police, which functions under Union Home Minister Amit Shah, had not registered an FIR in the matter, cases had instead been filed against AAP MLA Jarnail Singh, Sahib Singh and Bhardwaj himself.
Bhardwaj also thanked advocate Onkar Rai and his legal team for taking up the young man’s case without charging him.
Rai, representing Singh, said the incident involved Verma allegedly slapping a young Gen-Z man in broad daylight. He claimed that following the incident, Singh and his family members had allegedly received repeated death threats and abusive calls, making it difficult for them to live normally.
Rai said the petition was filed before the High Court primarily to seek protection for Singh and his family. Following the hearing, the court issued notices to the Delhi government and Verma, seeking a detailed response on the facts of the case. The matter has been listed for further hearing on November 17.
According to Rai, the petition seeks complete protection of the life and liberty of Singh and his family members. He expressed concern over the possibility of an impartial police investigation, citing the political position of the accused.
Rai claimed that the police had so far registered only a non-cognisable report (NCR) under Section 323 of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code, which he said did not result in substantive action.
He argued that since the accused is an elected representative and an influential person, the matter should be subjected to an independent judicial inquiry. He also sought police protection for Singh, citing the alleged threats to his safety.
The allegations made by Bhardwaj and Rai are part of the ongoing proceedings before the Delhi High Court.
