Mumbai, October 2026 : Maharashtra Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane visited the Adani Port at Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to study its modern infrastructure, cargo handling systems, facilities for deep-draft vessels and advanced operational practices.
Rane said that useful practices observed during the visit would be examined for effective implementation in Maharashtra to give a new direction to the state’s port development.
Maharashtra has a long coastline and significant potential for the development of its ports. Against this backdrop, the minister said that experiences gained through such study visits would be valuable in making the state’s port sector more modern, efficient and globally competitive through the adoption of advanced technology, robust infrastructure and effective management systems.
The study visit was also aimed at understanding modern technologies, innovative initiatives and efficient management practices in the port development and shipbuilding sectors.
During the visit, officials provided information on cargo handling operations, facilities for the movement of deep-draft vessels, advanced infrastructure and the use of technology in the port’s day-to-day operations.
Discussions were also held on the role of the government in attracting greater investment into the port sector, ways to simplify approval procedures, measures to address operational challenges faced by industries and the creation of a strong ecosystem capable of driving broader economic development through ports.
The visit provided an opportunity to study the operational model and infrastructure of Krishnapatnam Port and identify practices that could potentially be adapted to Maharashtra’s maritime sector.
Krishnapatnam Port Chief Executive Officer Jagadish Patel, Maharashtra Maritime Board Chief Executive Officer Pradeep P., Chief Port Officer Praveen Khara, Executive Engineer Manish Metkar and other officials were present during the visit.
