DGP Rajiv Kumar Sharma Issues Comprehensive Directions at Police-Tourism Department Meeting
Special Arrangements to Be Made for Weekly Crowds at Major Religious Sites Including Khatu Shyam Ji and Salasar
Emphasis on Increasing Tourism Police Stations, Strengthening Tourist Assistance Force and Expanding CCTV Coverage
Jaipur, Sept 2026: Rajasthan Police has initiated steps to prepare a comprehensive action plan to further strengthen the safety and convenience of domestic and international tourists visiting the state, as well as devotees visiting religious sites.
As part of the initiative, Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma held an important meeting with senior officials of the Police and Tourism departments at Police Headquarters on Wednesday, with the objective of making tourists’ journeys safer, easier and more convenient.
The meeting discussed several issues, including security at tourist destinations, traffic management, the Tourist Assistance Force (TAF), tourism police stations, CCTV coverage, tourist assistance booths and emergency medical facilities.
Security Audit of All Tourist Destinations by September 30
DGP Sharma directed officials to conduct security audits of all major tourist destinations across Rajasthan by September 30, following the model of the recently conducted security audit at Amer.
He instructed police officials to obtain the audit reports and ensure that necessary measures were taken to address the shortcomings identified during the audits.
He said security arrangements at tourist destinations should not be restricted to specific events or fairs. Instead, permanent and effective security systems should be developed, keeping in mind the movement of tourists throughout the year.
Special Arrangements for Weekly Crowds
The DGP made it clear that authorities should not wait for major fairs and festivals to make arrangements for tourists and devotees. Large numbers of devotees visit major religious and tourist destinations such as Khatu Shyam Ji and Salasar Balaji every week.
Accordingly, police personnel and TAF teams should be deployed in adequate numbers on weekends and other days based on the expected crowd. He also directed officials to deploy additional police personnel during long weekends, when the number of tourists and devotees is likely to increase, and to strengthen the TAF during major fairs.
DGP Sharma directed the police, district administration and Devasthan Department to work in coordination to ensure effective crowd management and other arrangements at major religious tourism destinations, including Khatu Shyam Ji, Mehandipur Balaji, Salasar Balaji, Ramdevra, Gogamedi, Pushkar, Shrinathji and Sanwariya Ji.
Visible Presence of Tourist Assistance Force
Sharma emphasised the need to further strengthen the Tourist Assistance Force deployed at tourist destinations and ensure its effective and visible presence. He said tourists should receive immediate assistance whenever they face any difficulty.
Officials were directed to install information stands at key locations displaying police control room numbers, the police helpline 112, the RajCop Citizen App and other useful links. Special assistance booths were also to be established by the TAF.
He stressed that these assistance booths should not exist merely in name. Trained personnel should be available at the booths to provide tourists with necessary information and immediate assistance.
Information Facilities at Airports on the Lines of Bus Stands and Railway Stations
The meeting was informed that TAF facilities are available at bus stands and railway stations, but similar arrangements are currently not available at airports.
DGP Sharma directed officials to coordinate with airport authorities and display essential information for tourists through posters, banners, standees and LED screens at airports.
He also called for better coordination between the TAF and local police stations and directed officials to ensure all possible assistance to tourists at airports and other entry and exit points.
Multilingual Information at Tourist Assistance Booths
The DGP directed that tourist assistance booths should be attractively designed and provide tourism-related material and essential information in multiple languages.
Signboards in different languages should also be installed at tourist destinations to assist visitors from across India and abroad.
He suggested engaging young people who have completed foreign-language courses as language experts so that international tourists can receive necessary information and assistance in their own languages.
More CCTV Cameras, Medical Facilities and Women Police Personnel
The meeting emphasised the installation of more CCTV cameras at tourist destinations and the integration of existing local CCTV networks to ensure effective surveillance of sensitive and crowded areas.
The need to establish tourism police stations at locations witnessing high tourist footfall was also discussed.
DGP Sharma directed officials to ensure emergency medical facilities for tourists, deployment of women police personnel to assist female tourists and availability of trained guides wherever required.
Follow-Up on Tourism Police Station Proposals for Sawai Madhopur and Jaisalmer
Officials were directed to follow up on proposals submitted for establishing tourism police stations in Sawai Madhopur and Jaisalmer.
The DGP said that effective tourism policing arrangements should be developed at locations that consistently receive large numbers of tourists, keeping their safety and convenience in mind.
He also stressed increasing the number of tourism police stations across the state, providing the required police personnel for tourism policing and imparting training tailored to the specific needs of the tourism sector.
Amer Case Study to Be Implemented at Other Tourist Destinations
DGP Sharma directed officials to implement the requirements identified through the security audit and case study conducted earlier at Amer at other major tourist destinations across Rajasthan as well.
He said that apart from tourist safety, a clean environment, organised movement, better road connectivity, parking facilities, availability of essential information and smooth traffic management were also important components of the overall tourism experience.
All concerned departments were directed to work in coordination while keeping these aspects in mind.
Focus on Heritage Walks in Jaipur
The meeting also discussed developing heritage walks for domestic and international tourists visiting Jaipur.
The initiative would introduce visitors to the city’s historical and cultural heritage while providing them with an organised and safe way to explore important tourism areas.
During the meeting, DG Traffic Malini Agarwal briefed officials on the facilities and arrangements being provided by Rajasthan Police at tourist destinations. She also offered suggestions on bringing more tourist destinations under CCTV coverage and establishing tourism police stations at locations with high tourist footfall.
At the beginning of the meeting, Tourism Commissioner Rukmani Riad presented the compliance report on directions issued during the previous meeting. She also briefed participants on the current status of major tourist destinations across the state and the facilities being provided to tourists by the Tourism Department.
Riad informed the meeting that a special application developed by the department through the Department of Information Technology and Communication (DoIT&C) would soon be launched. DGP Sharma directed officials to integrate the application with the RajCop Citizen App and panic button facility.
She also briefed officials on publicity material, the design of tourist assistance booths and training programmes.
Riad said that, in compliance with directions issued during the previous meeting, the Kalika Patrolling Unit had been instructed to cover tourist sites during its regular patrols to ensure better coordination between the TAF and police.
During the meeting, SP Vigilance Vandita Rana made a presentation on experiences and best practices gathered from visits to various tourist destinations in Rajasthan as well as Goa and Tirumala.
ADG Law and Order V.K. Singh, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Om Kasera and senior officials from the Tourism Department, Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC), Amer Development and Management Authority, Municipal Corporation and the concerned police departments were present at the meeting.
