Aizawl, Sept 2026: Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar inaugurated the Mizoram Armwrestling Super Match, ‘Battle of the Hills,’ organised by the Mizoram Arm Wrestling Association (MAWA) at Vanapa Hall on Monday evening.
Addressing the gathering, the Sports Minister said arm wrestling is a highly popular sport among the people of Mizoram. The state government is also promoting the sport, which has now been included among the disciplines eligible for the Mizoram Sports Incentive Cash Award.
He said efforts are underway to include arm wrestling in the 2032 Paralympic Games and the 2027 National Games. He extended his best wishes to Mizo arm wrestlers and all those associated with and passionate about the sport.
Competitions at the ‘Battle of the Hills’ were held in the 65 kg, 75 kg, 85 kg and 85+ kg categories. Arm wrestlers from Maharashtra, including Dara Singh and Kyle Cummings, also participated in the event. Denic Lalruattluanga, who won a gold medal at the Asian Arm Wrestling International Cup 2024, was also among the participants.
The armwrestling super match was organised in support of 16 Mizo arm wrestlers who will represent India at the World Arm Wrestling Championship 2026, scheduled to be held in Delhi during October and November this year.
Participation in the World Championship involves considerable expenses. Therefore, all proceeds generated from the ‘Battle of the Hills’ event will be set aside to support the Mizo arm wrestlers who will participate in the World Championship.
