Tamil Nadu CM C. Joseph Vijay Likely to Visit Britain to Woo Global Investors

Chennai, Sep 2026 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is likely to undertake his first overseas visit from September 10 to 16, with Britain expected to be the primary destination as the state government steps up efforts to attract international investments and strengthen its engagement with global companies.

The proposed visit is part of the government's broader strategy to position Tamil Nadu as a preferred investment destination for companies across multiple sectors. During his tour, Vijay is expected to meet business leaders, corporate executives and prospective investors and highlight the state's industrial infrastructure, skilled workforce and established manufacturing and services ecosystem.

A senior state government official confirmed that preparations for the proposed Britain visit were underway, although the final itinerary is yet to be approved.

During the visit, the Chief Minister is also expected to oversee the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with companies interested in setting up new facilities or expanding their existing operations in Tamil Nadu. The agreements are likely to cover investments across manufacturing, technology and services, among other sectors.

Government sources said the possibility of including additional countries in the itinerary was also being examined. Any expansion of the tour would depend on the availability of investors and the scheduling of meetings and official engagements. Details regarding the delegation accompanying the Chief Minister are expected to be announced at a later stage.

The proposed overseas outreach comes soon after the Tamil Nadu government announced that the state had secured investment commitments exceeding Rs 1 lakh crore during the first 100 days of the administration.

A significant portion of these commitments was secured at an investors' conclave held in Chennai in August. The event resulted in the signing of 97 MoUs representing proposed investments worth Rs 67,452 crore. The government has projected these commitments as an early success of its industrial strategy and a sign of growing investor confidence in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay's proposed Britain visit is expected to take the investment campaign beyond domestic platforms and provide the state with an opportunity to engage directly with international companies considering India for new projects. The government is expected to focus on converting investment interest and commitments into actual projects, employment opportunities and sustained economic activity.

The international outreach assumes significance as Indian states increasingly compete with one another to attract major industrial projects and global capital. Neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has also intensified its efforts to reach out to domestic and international investors, adding to the competitive environment in southern India.

Ahead of the Chief Minister's proposed overseas tour, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister Keerthana is likely to travel to Taiwan on September 4 to participate in SEMICON Taiwan. Her visit is expected to focus on strengthening the state's engagement with leading semiconductor, electronics and component manufacturers.

The Taiwan mission will provide an opportunity to showcase Tamil Nadu's capabilities in emerging technology and electronics manufacturing and explore potential investment opportunities in the semiconductor ecosystem.

The two proposed missions reflect the government's strategy of combining high-level political outreach with targeted sector-specific engagement. While the Chief Minister's Britain visit is expected to focus on broader investment opportunities and global business partnerships, the Industries Minister's Taiwan visit will concentrate on the strategically important semiconductor and electronics sectors.

Together, the initiatives underline Tamil Nadu's efforts to strengthen its global investment profile, attract fresh capital and translate announced investment commitments into industrial projects, jobs and long-term economic growth.
