Telangana Seeks Centre’s Nod for Major Road, Connectivity Projects

Komatireddy Venkat Reddy urges Nitin Gadkari to expedite approvals for Hyderabad congestion relief, Regional Ring Road, NH-65 expansion and Hyderabad-Amaravati connectivity

Hyderabad, Oct 2026 : Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has urged Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to expedite approvals, funding and clearances for a series of major infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity, easing traffic congestion and supporting economic growth across the state.

Venkat Reddy held discussions with Gadkari on the sidelines of the two-day Chintan Shivir-2026, a national conclave on highway infrastructure being held at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat. The workshop is focused on strengthening Centre-state coordination on infrastructure projects and improving highway connectivity.

According to a statement from the minister’s office, the meeting covered several projects awaiting Central approvals, financial sanctions and other clearances, including national highway expansion, the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR), tourism connectivity and road infrastructure linking Telangana with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

Double-decker corridor for Hyderabad

One of the key proposals discussed was a double-decker elevated corridor between LB Nagar and Hayathnagar to address persistent congestion along NH-65 in eastern Hyderabad. The proposed corridor is intended to provide a long-term solution to traffic bottlenecks on the busy stretch. Earlier estimates for the project have put its cost at around Rs 941 crore.

Venkat Reddy requested that the project be included in the Centre’s 2026-27 annual plan and approved in coordination with the proposed extension of the Miyapur-LB Nagar Metro corridor to Hayathnagar.

The minister also sought the Centre’s support for the expansion of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada-Machilipatnam NH-65 into a six-lane highway. He said traffic on the route had crossed 1.20 lakh passenger car units and pointed to accident-prone stretches and hazardous locations. The expansion, he argued, is necessary to meet rising traffic demand and improve road safety.

Tourism and Srisailam connectivity

Venkat Reddy sought approval for five ropeway projects under the Parvatmala scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 1,230 crore. The proposed projects are aimed at improving connectivity to important tourism and spiritual destinations while promoting environmentally sustainable transport.

He also requested approval for an elevated corridor on the Hyderabad-Srisailam NH-765 in the tiger reserve forest area. The proposed elevated structure is intended to address the difficulties involved in widening roads through the Nallamala forest while improving the safety and convenience of pilgrims travelling to Srisailam.

Regional Ring Road push

A major part of the discussions centred on the northern section of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road. Venkat Reddy sought speedy financial and Union Cabinet approval for the 161.518-km northern section connecting Sangareddy, Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Jagadevpur, Bhongir and Choutuppal.

The minister said the Telangana government was prepared to bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition cost for the northern section. He also pointed out that land acquisition had progressed substantially and that the National Highways Authority of India had invited tenders.

He urged the Centre to also take up the southern section of the RRR on the same priority, completing the full ring around Hyderabad. The southern section is expected to support future projects, including Bharat Future City, industrial parks and radial road networks.

CRIF and interstate connectivity

Venkat Reddy also sought Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) sanctions for 33 road development projects during 2026-27. The projects cover 511.68 km and have an estimated cost of Rs 1,227.75 crore. He said the works, proposed by MPs and MLAs, were important for balanced regional development.

The minister further requested acceleration of the Detailed Project Report process for the Hyderabad-Amaravati Greenfield Expressway. He said the proposed connectivity would strengthen economic ties between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Venkat Reddy also proposed connecting the expressway with a dry port in Telangana to facilitate freight movement and industrial activity, besides exploring a spur connection to Bandar Port.

The proposals form part of Telangana’s broader effort to secure Central support for road and transport infrastructure that can improve regional connectivity, reduce congestion and create stronger links between Hyderabad, emerging industrial zones, tourism destinations and neighbouring states.
