Nashik, August 2026: A tree plantation programme was organised at Brahmagiri in Trimbakeshwar on Monday under the ‘Harit Brahmagiri’ and ‘Unnat Nashik’ campaigns. The programme was led by Maharashtra Water Resources and Disaster Management Minister, Kumbh Mela Minister and Nashik district Guardian Minister Girish Mahajan.
The plantation drive was held in the Ganga-Godavari Gate area of Trimbakeshwar, at Metghar Gram Panchayat and around the Brahmagiri region. The initiative forms part of the broader efforts to increase green cover in Nashik city and surrounding areas ahead of the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
MLA Hiraman Khoskar, water conservation expert Rajendra Singh, actor Chinmay Udgirkar, Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority Commissioner Shekhar Singh, District Collector Ayush Prasad, Deputy Conservator of Forests Siddhesh Savardekar, Tehsildar Ganesh Jadhav, Trimbak Municipal Council Chief Officer Govind Jadhav and Rajesh Pandit were among those present.
The plantation programme was conducted as part of the ninth phase of the Mission Green Monsoon campaign. Various indigenous tree species were planted during the drive. According to officials, a total of 50,275 trees have been planted so far under the campaign.
The initiative has also received support from various social organisations, non-governmental organisations and local citizens, who have participated in the plantation activities and contributed towards expanding green cover in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Guardian Minister Girish Mahajan said plans were being implemented to ensure that Nashik city and its surrounding areas become greener ahead of the forthcoming Kumbh Mela.
He said the ongoing plantation drive was an important part of these preparations and had received an encouraging response from residents of Nashik.
Mahajan appealed to citizens not only to participate in tree plantation activities but also to take responsibility for the long-term protection and conservation of the trees being planted.
He said the campaign would continue in the coming period with the objective of increasing greenery and creating a healthier environment across Nashik and the surrounding areas.
A traditional water worship ceremony was also conducted on the occasion in the presence of dignitaries.
Students of Trimbakeshwar College, residents of Metghar, local citizens, representatives of various organisations, elected representatives, and officials and employees of the Forest Department participated in the programme in large numbers.
The plantation initiative is expected to contribute to the conservation of the ecologically significant Brahmagiri region while supporting Nashik’s broader efforts to improve its green cover and environmental sustainability ahead of the Kumbh Mela.
