Trump Urges New York Voters to Back Republican Candidates, Citing Tax and Immigration Policies

Washington, Nov 2026 : US President Donald Trump urged New York voters to elect three Republican congressional candidates, arguing that his administration’s tax policies, immigration agenda and broader programme were at stake, as he made a final telephone campaign pitch ahead of the midterm elections.

Addressing a virtual rally, Trump endorsed Mike Lawler, Mike LiPetri and Jeanine Driscoll, describing their contests as crucial to preserving Republican support in Congress. He repeatedly called on supporters to vote on November 3.

“So, get out and vote for Mike Lawler, Mike LiPetri, and Jeanine Driscoll. They’re fantastic people,” Trump said.

The president focused his appeal on taxes, border enforcement and gun rights, while also discussing Iran and energy prices. His remarks were aimed at mobilising voters in congressional races and reinforcing support for his administration’s policies.

Trump praised Lawler for his work on the federal deduction for state and local taxes, commonly known as SALT. He said the congressman had worked closely with him on the issue and argued that the deduction was particularly important for New York taxpayers.

He also accused Democrat Laura Gillen, whom Driscoll is seeking to defeat, of opposing his tax measures. The campaign remarks did not include a response from Gillen to Trump’s account of her positions.

Trump presented Driscoll, the Hempstead town receiver, as an official who had saved taxpayers money. He argued that her election would help preserve policies he described as eliminating taxes on tips, overtime and Social Security benefits.

However, his remarks did not detail the provisions, eligibility requirements or limitations of the measures he cited.

Backing LiPetri against Democratic Congressman Tom Suozzi, Trump said the Republican had opposed tax increases while serving in the New York State Legislature. He argued that LiPetri would continue that approach in Congress and support his administration’s wider agenda.

Trump sharply criticised Suozzi over immigration, accusing Democrats of seeking citizenship for people who entered the country illegally to gain electoral support. The supplied campaign material included no response from Suozzi and offered no evidence establishing the alleged motive.

Gun rights also featured prominently in Trump’s appeal. He accused Democratic opponents of threatening protections under the Second Amendment and said his preferred candidates would resist restrictions.

“We want a wall. We want low taxes. We want a strong military,” he said.

Turning to Iran, Trump defended military action as necessary to prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. He claimed that Iranian military capabilities had been severely damaged and predicted that oil prices would fall once the confrontation was resolved. The campaign remarks provided no independent assessment of those military claims or evidence supporting his forecast for energy prices.

Trump also claimed that his administration’s drug-pricing policy was reducing medicine costs. He warned that Democrats would reverse the changes if they gained power, linking the issue to his broader argument for maintaining Republican control of Congress.

Describing telephone rallies as an important part of his campaign effort, Trump said he hoped to congratulate the three candidates after voting. He also praised Bruce Blakeman, his preferred candidate for New York governor.
