Mayor Reservation Announced for 29 Municipal Corporations; Women to Lead 15 Cities

Mumbai, January 2026: The reservation for the posts of Mayor in 29 municipal corporations across the state has been announced following a draw held under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal. The reservation will remain in effect for the next two-and-a-half years. Of the 29 municipal corporations, 15 mayoral posts have been reserved for women belonging to various categories.

Out of the 29 municipal corporations in the state, one mayoral post has been reserved for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. As per existing rules, the post is not reserved for the Scheduled Tribe (Women) category.
For the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, three posts have been reserved, of which two posts are reserved for Scheduled Caste (Women).

Under the Other Backward Class (OBC) category, eight mayoral posts have been reserved, including four posts for OBC (Women).

From the remaining 17 municipal corporations, nine posts have been reserved for the General (Women) category, while eight posts fall under the Open (General) category.
