Ensure Proper Planning of Funds to Strengthen Health System : MoS Meghna Sakore-Bordikar Review Meeting Held at Health Bhavan
Mumbai, April 2026 : Minister of State for Health Meghna Sakore-Bordikar has directed officials to ensure proper planning and utilisation of funds to strengthen the healthcare system.
A review meeting was held at Health Bhavan regarding the allocation and planning of funds received under the State Budget for the financial year 2025–26, as well as under the National Health Mission (NHM). Speaking at the meeting, Minister Sakore-Bordikar said that effective implementation of healthcare services remains the government’s top priority. She also instructed that thalassemia patients should be regularly issued disability certificates at the district level.
Detailed discussions were held on various subjects during the meeting. The functioning of the Maharashtra State Medical Goods and Equipment Procurement Authority was reviewed. Additionally, procurement of medicines and medical equipment carried out between 2024 and 2026 was examined.
There was also an in-depth discussion on planning for the current year’s operations and the implementation of the rate contract process. The meeting further deliberated on the proposal to start PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) clinics in healthcare institutions across the state. It was noted that this initiative would be significant from the perspective of women’s health.
A comprehensive review was also conducted on the completion of one year of the campaign “Ek Paul Thalassemia Muktikade” (One Step Towards a Thalassemia-Free State). Thalassemia is a genetic disorder in which patients require regular blood transfusions. Emphasising the need to prevent the spread of the disease, the Minister highlighted that pre-marital counselling is extremely important. Instructions were given to create awareness through marriage bureaus and related platforms.
During the meeting, Minister Sakore-Bordikar also reviewed in detail the proposed budgets, programme-wise expenditures, and mandatory expenses.
The meeting was attended by Health Services Commissioner and National Health Mission Director Dr. Kadambari Balkawade, Director of Health Services Dr. Vijay Kandewad, along with other senior officials from the health department.
